As stated in the Wheelus Post Ken Lawson and I have been working on a backdated version of John Stinstrom's Lajes Air Base, in fact we actually started this one first then moved on to Wheelus so thought it was time to show a few pictures of this scenery.
As per all of our sceneries, this will come with traffic for all four Calclassic traffic years. One thing you will notice if you look at pictures from John Hewson's Lajes album on Flickr, any one type of aircraft may be parked at one end of the airport and in a later picture it might be at the other end of the airport. Obviously, we can't do that so we had to pick where they parked, right or wrong.
Here are some general views of the backdated base.
From the SE side of the base
From the NW side of the base
And at the center apron area where I placed the ARS (Rescue) aircraft. Deltadart painted some additional C-54 rescue aircraft seen in pictures from John Hewson's Lajes album. You will notice there is an early model B-17D which I had placed there to represent SB-17 G/H models that were still present as late as 58 in photos. Alas, there is no non armored G or H model available to repaint so this probably won't make the cut.
Here are some other general shots of the airport.
Some of Ken's custom building mixed in with Stinstrom's originals like the gray building with tower which I think was a parachute packing building.
another view of the building area
A view from inside the Tower.
And here are some shots of the various aircraft you will see. Some from the MATS traffic from Calclassic and the rest from our own traffic files. Almost all the aircraft represented here were present in photos from John's Lajes album.
B-36s from 1955 and 57
B-47s I think present in most years in various numbers.
If you installed our Kingsley AB scenery you will see Chuck Yeager's squadron from the Kingsley traffic file stopping here as well on their way to Zaragosa AB in Spain.
F-104s from the 434th & 435th FIS in 1962 Heading to Zaragosa AB for their rotation there.
F-101s of the 91st and 92nd FIS heading, I think to RAF Woodbridge, perhaps replacement aircraft.
And a view of the approach to 33
Project is more or less complete assuming we quit fiddling with it and get the documentation done. We have not yet decided how to release both these sceneries yet, but they shouldn't be too far out.
