The notepad (and the naming convention) tells you the required accuracy of the measurement needed.
Lets take the worked example from the manual: SS5 you read the value as 17usec. This is normal. SS6 is the position for the "50" usec reading. The tick marks are every 100usec, but your measurement must be accurate to 50usec. Always round down. You see the pulse is between marks 4 and 5, more than halfway to 5. That's 450. SS7 and the pulse is just *a hair* to the left side of mark 3. 2,500usec. The reading is called "500," your calculation must be accurate to 500usec, even though the tiny little timing marks are every 1,000usec. 2500+450+17=2967usec.
It's confusing as all heck but I'm telling you, after 4 hours of messing with it, it will click.

My head hurts. I'll stick with the bubble sextant thank you. Or the weatherships DF if I want easy and no thought process.
