It appears from the trailer that they are trying to answer the question they get from gamer types - "but what do you do in it?". Just about every civil use of aviation seems to be covered, except the most obvious one - airline pilot. I do realize that this is already included somewhat, but not seeing it spelled out in the trailer is disappointing.

Looks interesting. I am sure I will buy it and hopefully this time use it a little more than I did with 2020 which I bought when it was first released. I also hope they have addressed the ai issues in this version. We shall see!

Interesting. When MSFS (FS2020) was announced, it was going to have a 10 year span of support and development, backward aircraft compatibility with FSX SP2/Acceleration, and be a full-featured flight sim, no need for add-on weather or AI traffic. Third year of development and MS announces its replacement and I do not think all the promises of 2020 were or are going to be kept. Hmmmmm, who else remembers when MS announced that Windows 10 would be the final version of Windows? We now have Windows 11 and Windows 12 is in a beta release. I'm sticking with FSX Steam for now, might go to P3D.

Yeah, I found it odd that they seem to have gone to considerable trouble to provide a career-based sim environment but managed to avoid the career that most closely adheres to the main use of the sim. I'm struggling to know why one would bother with the new version if your interests don't include crop dusting and rescuing mountain climbers.
Sticking with FSX for now.

Hi, i was surprised also with MSFS2024 annonce, i understood that MSFS will be "continualy updated for 10 years", with payware and freeware add-ons, but, without changing the "version".
In another way, with the HUGE quantity of free improvements and add-ons (world updates, aircrafts, helicopters, seaplanes, gliders, sci-fi ships) that MSFS release for free for his customers, the last 3 years, i can't say that the price i put on it in 2020 was a bad business...
But could be better, if microsoft propose a "big add-on" expensive for those want all this "missions" and goodies of the MSFS2024 trailer than a "new" simulator... (that is more like MSFS2020 with the add-ons of the trailer...) that take more space on my SSD disks...
why Microsot/Asobo talked about "10 years project"?
it's a kind of lie,
When they switch (as all others developers of simulation), to one new version each 4 years?
Microsoft PDG want more money from MSFS? if i well understood, MSFS is already a best-seller... so...
so i not understand well the whole thing...

Although I have incredibly little interest in MSFS and even less in FS2024*, I have made extensive use of ADE in FSX. I find it to be an indispensable tool for correcting and improving default airports and upgrading/modernizing add-on airports. I certainly hope that ADE development will be handed to someone who is passionate about flight sims. * I sound just like the FS8 guys when FSX was announced! I even said the same thing when I was absolutely loving FS9 and I tried the FSX demo.

LOL! I was the opposite - very excited about FSX, then disappointed how badly it ran on my current machine and the incompatibility of FS9 stuff (airplanes and scenery are not truly compatible). I had rapidly updated to each new sim since 5.1, but that stopped since I felt MS had broken my trust (“if you code things for FS2024 it will be compatible with FSX” - we went to great efforts to learn and redo our FS2002 stuff to FS2004 format just for this reason, now it was wasted effort). Now I’m so far behind I will never catch up, nor do I feel the need to.

I think, FS2020, was a big modification in graphic engine and internal models, comparing FSX, and FS2002 was.
Conversion between FS2020 and FS2024, will be, almost effortless, is the same core.
As between FSX (native) and P3D
and also, almost as FS2002 to FS2004.
or between XP11 and XP12
some new features or FS2024 or XP12, the FS2020 or the XP11 not use it, but,
aircrafts from FS2002 (native), works on FS2004 aircrafts from FSX (native), work on P3D aircrafts from XP11 (native), works on XP12 aircrafts from FS2020 (native), will work on FS2024
for scenerys, it's a little more complex, but scenerys for XP11 work on XP12 and scenerys for FS2020 will work on FS2024

Some will only consume, some still will have fun! The ethernal contradiction. Bernard Not agree... some people still love to fly (and make sceneries and aircrafts) for FS98.... it's a free world, and this is nice but, the quality of that can be achieved, as aircrafts or sceneries, on FS2020 or XP12 it's awesome, and is really fun to use also. and new SDK allow us, to make great things, with less works and is less time consuming. and for "consume", i don't know, all PC simulateurs, from Flight Simulator 1.0, was a sell product. people spent and will spend, a lot of money, on FS98, FS2000, FS2002, FS2004, FSX, P3D, XP, MSFS, etc there are freeware developers, for all this simulators, but the developpers of all simulateurs, are a business.

ADE is a wonderfull software, really usefull from FS2004 to P3D (i used to make airports for this simulators) for FS2020, ADE is not really obligatory (airport editor inside MSFS is already great and friendly) ADE It's ok to convert airports from others sims to MSFS format, but, if you want to make from scratch an airport it's better to start it directlyon airport editor of MSFS SDK.

Glad to hear it, then the end of ADE won’t really matter. Just another tool that has seen its day. I’m also glad that Jon gets to rest after all the work he put into the program. But I certainly thank him for all the enjoyment I’ve had using it.
