Couple of years ago I started a thread asking about the "realistic start" function for the CC propliners. Specifically that it seemed to not work in Windows 10 and nothing I tried seemed to fix it.Is fine though in WIN 7. Still using 10 right now but am considering a new computer. Wondering if anyone has experienced whether or not this gauge works in WIN 11 ? Have also considered building with WIN 9 as I DO miss the cool starting effects.
Thoughts, opinions ?

I have win 11 and on my system and the CC realistic engine start works just fine. I like Win a11 and would definitely recommend it. You just need to set your shortcut to XP compatibility mode. My previous machine was a win 10 and it work fine in that environment as well. As long as the compatibility mode is set to XP mode it should work fine. Al

One of the things I tried 2 years ago was running in XP mode and it had no effect. Tried WIN 7 mode as well and that was a no go. So at the time I just gave it up and did w/o the slow rotation start. Am using v9.1. The install is direct to C:\ Drive. Never tried in FSX.but will do so and let you know the outcome.

It will crash FSX instantly.
Some computers do not like the system, no matter what OS is used.

Just tried it in FSX using the CV-340. Didn't crash the program but also didn't work. Still got the default fast startup and the plane flew as normal.
Another weird thing. In the FS9 install, the CV-340 has the realistic start activated. The plane still loads OK but the slow start is inop. The CV-240 however crashes FS9 to black then restarts the program from the beginning.

You mentioned WIN 9 in your first post. There was no Windows 9 - they moved straight from 8 to 10. I believe I am correct in saying that the realistic start always crashed some computers, and mine was one of them.

Yeah, the WIN 9 thing was a brain freeze. I meant WIN 7 and have since edited the post.
Thanks

Hi Mike,
It works OK in W10 for me too but I agree that it some times doesn't work in certain computers. I had a read through the 2019 thread and nothing I can add to that except, for what it's worth, a couple of checks you might try.
I recall Tom saying when it was first released that the AIRCRAFT_RELOAD gauge can be the problem in some systems. Perhaps Tom can explain a work around if there is one?
And the bleeding obvious, double check the gauges are in the folders that the panel.cfg shows them to be and that the normalised_starter_torque is high enough.
Mixture should be off too.
Good luck

You can try to comment out the Aircraft Reload gauge in the panel.cfg file by putting // in front of that line, then saving the file. But then you will need to load the plane twice for the slow start to work. Load the plane into FS, then load it again.

Tried commenting out the reload gauge entry. No dice.
Torque set to .30.
Should that be higher ?

I just tried Realistic Engine Start on my Win 11 machine. I used the Douglas DC-6B. The aircraft reload works fine as does the Realistic Engine Start gauge. So it must relate to your specific machine and Windows to run it.

Mike,
Is your FS9.exe compatibility set to XP? Mine shows "Windows XP (Service Pack 3)"
Can we walk through any particular aircraft to see what you might be doing differently? What about one of the release Connies? Any preference? We can then compare settings.
I do find variations in torque setting. My L1049H uses 0.075 whereas my DC-7's use 0.30 and strangely both seem to work.
What actually happens when you use Ctrl+E?
Nothing? Props turn but engine doesn't fire? Engine fires then quits? Engines start 1-2-3-4?

If I do not use the realistic start I lower the torque to 0.07 or so (or lower if possible) to get a slower prop startup. With the realistic start gauges it needs to be 0.3 for the system to work with most planes.

From my past experiences, Windows 10 and 11 do not like FS9 gauges. Do not know why. FS9 gauges work well in my FSX when using Windows 7 but do not work in my FSX when using Windows 10 and 11. Do not know why.
