Hi everyone. I'm looking to see what's the average cruising pitch for these planes when you fly them:
DC-6 series DC-7 series
Vickers Viscount
Bristol Britannia
Super G Connie
Starliner
When I fly these, they all on average fly a zero to near one percent degree positive pitch, except the Connies: the Connies' pitch range from 1 degree to 3 degrees positive pitch with excellent climbing performance even on a long haul loaded flight which seems to be quite right. Not sure about the rest. Sometimes the Vickers Viscount flies a slightly negative pitch in a medium haul flight. What are your pitch numbers for these planes in cruise when flying them in a short, medium and long haul flight?
Regards Andrew

I see what you see for the planes you mention. I’m not surprised the Viscount flies a bit nose down, many turboprops did (the CV-580, for example).

I flew on Western's Electra perhaps nine or ten times and I remember that that the floor was basically flat. I flew one flight on Delta's DC-7 and from what I can remember the floor was basically flat - although the plane was very light, not even half full and it was doing very short hops. As I recall, the early jets I flew on like the CV-880 and DC-8 had a slight pitch up, but nothing like today where you can see the cabin floor sloping up.
