In conjunction with the release of the Nassau scenery I would like to be able to paint the Lyons' Goose in the colours of Bahamas Airways and fly some of their timetable to neighbouring islands. It is clear from 1950s photos that the livery was smart and in fact a BOAC one in white and BOAC dark blue, so they were probably some kind of BOAC subsidiary. Was a paintkit ever released and is it still available? The Flightsim link to the Goose on the CC planes page seems to be dead and the zip file which other paints tell you is necessary not to be available. Any thoughts appreciated, Ken

Many thanks, Tom. I think there might have been a paintkit at some time, because trying to work things out from the textures in the existing paints has its challenges, not all of which I have overcome. Nevertheless this screenshot shows a reasonable stab at one of the Bahamas Airways aircraft. There are a number of photos of them on the net and they were extremely smart, with varying paint schemes. This is a lot better than nothing and will allow flying their schedule out of Nassau, which might be a lot of fun. Ken

Ahh the awsome Lyons'Grumman Goose. Difficulties and some limitations when painting this old model, but still enjoyable! Me myself have some "painting"-experience on this goose, and you will find my work uploaded at www.flightsim.com/. Just search my name; Dag Farestveit, or Grumman Goose... Nice paint on this one connieguy. Feel free to borrow things from my paint/liveries! This one is white and "clean"; www.flightsim.com/files/file/208021-fs2004-grumman-g-21-a-goose-n119aa/BTW I started my own Bahamas Airways texture yesterday evening. I admit I was inspired by your work. I will show some pics in screen shot forum later on. daypharris

Great that you are interested in it. The Lyons were years ahead of their time, but there are aspects of the paint I find baffling. My paint is reasonably accurate until you get to the tail, but how you paint that I have not yet worked out. Very oddly too, I have not been able to turn the hull black or BOAC blue. I note, incidentally, that some of the BOAC aircraft had two blade props and no spinners. FS Aviator says they were originally a subsidiary of PanAm.
PS I have now managed to put the stripes and registration on the tail - see the updated image above - but the stripes should also be on the rudder. Your own paint, in a separate thread, is far better.

I have now managed to produce something I am fairly satisfied with in the white tail livery which I prefer over the blue. It was Dag's paint of the US Navy Goose from 1941 which gave me the final clue on the rudder textures, because there was no way their location could have been guessed and I think it must ultimately derive from a paintkit. This one loses all the exquisite detail of the riveting, but this is not obvious anyway unless you are very close up, and it is only just visible in surviving photographs of these aircraft. What a pure craft the Lyons practised.
However the riveting can to an extent be recovered by activating the alpha channel:
