For those interested, I have just released another in the series of USAFE French Air Bases for the Calclassic years. Available at Flightsim.com and soon at Simouthouse.com
This scenery would not have been possible (like those before it) without John Hewson terrific album. You can view it at www.flickr.com/photos/12530375@N08/albums/72177720312597693
This scenery and traffic depict Phalsbourg AB as it was in the mid 50s when it first became active to the early 60s. The USAF wanted to base a fighter wing at Phalsbourg by 1955. By the spring of 1955 the runways, taxiways and hangars were constructed, however the base was barely habitable because few roads were paved, and the utilities were not yet installed. The first USAF unit to be stationed at Phalsbourg AB was the 23rd Helicopter Squadron which arrived in November of 1956.
1957 Traffic covers the 23rd Helicopter Squadron Flying the CH-23 Shawnee which was active at Phalsbourg from November of 56 to January of 1958 when it was inactivated due to being to costly and inefficient to operate in France.
1958 Traffic file represents the 66th Tactical Recon Wing flying the RF-84F of the 32nd and 38th TRS, painted by Deltadart. Also, this same year the 513th Fighter interceptor Squadron (FIS) arrived with 26 F-86D Sabre Dogs flying an all-weather air defense mission also custom painted by Deltadart.
1959 Traffic file represents the 32nd and 38th TRS after they transitioned to the RF-101C Voodoo. The 513th FIS is still present as well.
1962 traffic. By 1960 the 32nd and 38th TRS had moved to Toul AB in France and then eventually Laon AB (both available in previous releases) and the 513 FIS had been inactivated. The base lay dormant until in late 1961 during the Berlin crisis, the Massachusetts Air National Guard 102nd Tactical Fighter Wing and its three fighter squadrons, the 101st, 131st, and 138th, the 138th being a New York Air National Guard unit attached to the wing, were stationed at Phalsbourg. All 75 F-86H are present along with supporting aircraft. All custom painted by Deltadart.
So, pick your year and enjoy. 1957 and 1958 traffic files are compatible to run together if you wish (I do in my 1957 Traffic folder)
Also of note, I recently released full range of Calclassic era traffic files for Ian Elliot's RAF Sculthorpe and RAF Alconbury sceneries also available at Flightsim.com and simouthouse.com along with a full complement of custom paints by Deltadart in support of these and other packages to be released.
