Can I Try to import CalClassic Airports to MSFS?

Hello everyone!

Well, Im not a very active user of this forum, Im sorry about that, but some may have seen my "Flying Boats Hydrobases" Project for MSFS wich now has 50+ bases : calclassic.proboards.com/thread/11010/flying-boats-hydrobases-ongoing-project

While I'm having Fun creating these, I'd like to try something different: Retro Airports, and so, I'm posting this Tread here.

The main Difficulties Im facing is, Obviously..., the References... Not just about the Buildings, but the airport Layout itself: Runway, parking position etc. 

I started with my Home Airport, when it was build by the Americans in 1943, I did it to practice the SDK tools again (haven't touched it since December...)

I Also started looking at the CalClassic Sceneries, the pictures posted on the forum and the sceneries thumbnails.
My first question would be; where did the developers got all the datas for to make them? the airports layout, buildings etc? And if they are Accurate too? I would be very interested.

Since I don't have FS9 nor FSX anymore (I miss them sometimes...), I opened a few BGLs with ADE to see what the layout looked like, but I havent gone any further; since these are NOT my sceneries and I don't want any problem with original developers.

However, I'm being tempted to try to convert Just the Airport Layout with ADE to MSFS, but I wouldn't want to break any copyrights. I would guess that it's fine for PERSONAL USE, but I rather ask for the developers Opinions if they are still here . 

So my second question is: Can I try to import the Airport to MSFS (never tried before, it may fail lol) for Personal Use? and if yes, may I use them as Reference IF I want to fully dive in making Retro airports and make a Public version? (for now, Im just looking around for solutions and references, nothing planned)

Hi,

As far as I’m concerned, any of my sceneries can be converted for personal use. This also applies to the majority of other authors, unless specifically prohibited in their text file.

For release, it requires all original authors to be credited in your text file. This applies to myself and Mike Stevens; any other authors would need you to give you their permission first for release to the web.

The way we have been creating the layouts for the most recent US airports is to find the closest year’s aerial photo of the airport on the Historical Aerials site, take overlapping screenshots of each part of the airport, and stitch them all together into a single JPG image. Then we used this as a background image in ADE, aligning the image to the FS default runways as best as possible. This site also gives us the size of the buildings, using the Ruler.

For some other airports I have Jeppesen diagram books from the period I bought on eBay, and we use them to set the layout and estimate the rest.

For those without anything we can sometimes find a runway length or similar data from old saved FS Global articles, Wikipedia, airport web sites, and such. Then we guess the rest from any photos we can find, mostly from the web.

For the buildings we use photos to model their appearance, if available. If not, a typical generic building is placed there.

Thanks for the replies! I havent been able to find much datas or historcal aerial imagery, but I was thinking about taking inspiration from CalClassic sceneries. but as I said, no public release planned, at least not yet, Im just having some fun with MSFS SDk.

Also, just you makes sure when you say "For release, it requires all original authors to be credited in your text file. This applies to myself and Mike Stevens". do you mean that for you both I can convert it for MSFS and makes it public? (of course with credits!).
