Hi Frank, I couldn't believe Lufthansa ever had such loud blue livery. Perhaps that might occure because of my calibrated screen . Hans

Thanks guys. Hans, the tip tanks are the same color I assure you, its the angle of the screen shot I think. The only color photo I found shows this shade of blue, but then it could be off. Frank

Hi Frank, I am afraid this blue color occurs because of the (e.g.) Ectacrome film used for the picture and the intensive sunshine from the top right . Since 1955 LUFTHANSA aircrafts were colored in Standard German RAL colors Nr. RAL 5013 (kobaldblau) and RAL 1028 (Melonengelb) You may follow the link mentioned below and scroll down to the RAL color numbers for getting a view on the correct color. There still may be a little difference to the original color when your screen isn’t calibrated as it would be when using Huey Pro or something like that. de.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAL-FarbsystemGood luck Hans PS: May be between 1953 and 1955 LUFTHANSA used a blue color like that, but I am not sure: upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/de/thumb/5/54/Lufthansa_Logo.svg/239px-Lufthansa_Logo.svg.pngThe lettering isn't like that painted in those days on the aircrafts

Hi,
there may be an very early period of Lufthansa after WWII where the colors used for the livery are not well documented until now. I will try getting some more information about that time.

Ups, there is a very interesting essay made by Julia Harms und Tanja Sannwald, University of Weimar (Germany), 2004 Geschichte und Erscheinungsbild der Lufthansa(History and appearance of Lufthansa) www.uni-weimar.de/projekte/logo/stuff/cdvorstellen/lufthansa_julia_tanja.pdfThere you will find some samples for the colors used in the different periods. But be careful: It is hard to believe RAL 5022 should be the actual Lufthansa blue color. But we are getting clother to the truth Hans

According to this PDF, All our Lufthansa propliner AI, including the 707s, should be in this lighter blue color (1955-1962). I would assume, that the 720s, since they were the newest and delivered on or just before 1962, would have been delivered in the darker blue (1962-1979).
Is this true?
