Welknown actor, (707) pilot and aviation enthusiast, John Travolta read about our Connie-ferry, and insisted that we dropped in on his private airfield, Greystone, Fla (17FL) for a party at his estate on the airfield. Who are we to refuse? take-off Panama City, FLORIDA in the morning. Crossing the eastern-Florida coast near Foley. Lots of small airstrips here, but no trouble in finding Greystone. On finals. touch down...nose to go. Mister Travolta's estate in the background. Taxi-in on the private 'drive way'. No room to manouvre...throught the grass. Who cares? Helicopter view of our place for the night. Not bad uh? John Travolta's Gulfstream landed later that afternoon with some more famous guests 8-)for the pool side BBQ & party. (Ever met Angelina Jolie? Well, I just did!! )

Nice, Paul. Where did you find the scenery with JT's house and strip?

Hi Jesse, I just checked, and they're two packages, available from Flightsim.com: respectively dbwgrs05.zip for the 17FL Jumbolair scenery, and jt_fleetpack_fltsim.zip for John Travolta's private fleet.

Thanks, Okami. I think I'll got to flt sim.com and check it out. I've seen the place in the real world and the file is very close.

... Is there anywhere you haven't been, Jesse? ;D There are a few places I have missed. A good friend of mine who was a test pilot for Glen L. Martin on the 202 and 404 aircraft retired from Baltimore and moved down to Largo, FL. On my drive down to Miami to catch the cruise ship to the Panama Canal, I stopped by for a visit and Jack said he wanted to show me something. We drove to John Travolta's strip and It was fantastic. During 21 years in the Military and another 20 with NASA, I did get to see quite a bit of this old planet. Jesse

I don't recognize it unless you are referring to Dusseldorf. If so, you missed me when I was there. In the 60s I spent four great years in Germany working for ITT installing over-the-horizon Tropscatter equipment. I had 62 sites in Germany alone. I was all over Europe and the Med as far as Cyprus and Crete. ;D

Love that shot coming in over the trees. And Travolta's place looks just like that from the air.

His work there nearly earned him a spot on an Antarctic expedition - something he declined because of his family. I don't suppose your ITT-work ever brought you in Antwerp, though, right...?

Quite to the contrary. My last installation in France was at Maison Fort near Orleans. At this time, General deGaulle decided to pull France out of the NATO military alliance so I received instructions from Frankfurt to remove all of the troposcatter equipment to include the electronics, the shelters, the 250 f towers and the 30 ft dia dishes. All we left were the concrete hard stands. All the equipment was placed in truck operated by the famous Red Ball Express (military) and shipped back to the supply depot at Kaiserslautern in Germany. We moved all of our equipment out of the five French sites and moved NATO Hq to Flobeck in Belgium. I went back to Germany, but made several business trips to Flobeck. I really enjoyed the area. My wife flew into Luxembourg on Icelandic Air Loft Leider and we toured the whole Benelux countryside in my little blue beetle.
