Hi there!
Is it possible to get a GMT clock in the cockpit?
Especially during the long flights it is odd to see 5 times or more that it is midnight...AFAIK there is only an option in the FS to choose between the computer time and the game time. Is there maybe another option which I didn't found?

Hi, There is a Panel clock that displays local and GMT time on mouseover, but now that you bring it up, I can't remember what plane I saw it in. The Connies? (L-049.cab?) I think so.  |

Hi Randy,
unfortunately there is no mouseover GMT clock in the L1049G (mouseover shows same time as the analog clock). It would be little better than now but my thought was to show the GMT in the analog clock...

Hi,
The clocks used in the latest versions of all my panels display both local time and GMT in the tooltip. You can also get the current GMT from the Notepad.

Tom's clocks are probably your best option but not the complete answer.
For example, it's 1950 BST here in Britain. If I now create a flight in say California using system time, the clock shows 1950 on the face but the tooltip is 0250 GMT. However even if it doesn't tell you the correct time GMT it certainly partly resolves the annoying problem of the clock jumping when you cross time zones.
I'd still like a clock that actually shows GMT on the face. You could as a last resort change your computer to GMT but even then there are two snags, your saved flights will always start at the time you actually saved them and when you use pause you stop the clock.
Anybody found another way?

Flightsim.com has a utc clock that can be displayed in both digital and analog format. It also displays UTC as well as local time. Look for utcclock.zip and utcclockup.zip Jesse www.netdot.com/jcallahan/utcClock2.bmp |

In "my" cockpit the clock tooltip only shows the same time as the analog clock itself... And what you are meaning with the "notepad"? The Notepad is the gauge that comes up when you left click the little white and blue notepage icon.

Hi again.
I've now found a way to change the Connie's clock to GMT and so that it stays at GMT when you cross time zones.
I don't know how confident you are at editing gauges but if you give me an email address (send me a PM with your address if you prefer) then I'll mail the new version to you.
If you want to try an edit then the procedure is as follows,
Go to your Connie's panel folder and open the folder "L1049G"
Find three files, the Connie has three different clocks,
Clock_2d.xml
ClockFE.xml
ClockVC.xml
Take copies of them all for safety
Close your Flightsim
Right click on each and open with notepad
Where you see the word "local" change it to "absolute" except in the very bottom line after <mouse>. There are three changes to be made to each file.
Save the changes and restart flightsim
Go to "Time and Season" and set the GMT time to the current actual GMT, or whatever GMT suits the time of day you want.
Your panel clock face should now show the true GMT and if you use system time will keep that time except for periods of "pause". The tooltip will still show local time. I'm not yet sure how to change this.
Remember that when you open a saved flight you have to reset to the correct GMT again.
Hope this is a help. I never thought of trying to change it before and it seems a good idea.

Hi Bill, I was found the three files for the clocks but they are not in a folder. They are in a *.cab file. I can copy the three files, I can editing them, but I can't put them back into the CAB file. Nether the TotalCommander nor the Explorer are doing this. Help... (I'm knowing what a CAB file is, but I was never before in a situation to pack something into a CAB file. So what I will have to do, please?)

You need cabdir.exe from Microsoft and the SDK Word doc that explains how to use it. Basically it works like zipped files. If you PM me with your email I can send both to you.

If you are not short on HD space you can simply "unzip" the cab to a folder of the same name.
So instead of having the L1049G.cab all files end up in a folder called L1049G. This is important so that the simulator will still find the files after the editing is finished because the panel.cfg specifies that is where they are.
Once you have them all unpacked into the folder you can proceed with the editing as explained by Bill.
CabArc allows packing and unpacking into the CAB format. This will save a little space...no other difference. The gauges might actually load a tick faster if not in a CAB.
