Hi, I have this weird problem. Sometimes I log in and can post here but not on the other pages ;D. So here I am having wanted to reply to Randy about the S-43 airspeed difficulty I was having. Mainly due to a lack of attention on my part . MPH it is from now on, and back to cruising on the numbers. While I'm here I'm going to post up the slight mods I've made to the radio stack, which was missing some frequencies and the addition of an ILS gauge..the radio and other gauges are on a pop-up window together... ...there is no facility to fly the glide slope automatically, but I may be able to follow it down where the airport has it and I don't feel as if it's getting too modern! This is such a great looking airplane and was used almost everywhere it seems Russia, China,Alaska, Norway, South America, and Indonesia I think as well. A well travelled bird. Andy. Hi, Andy, if you're using that 3 degree glideslope (FS standard...for jets, mostly) you're going to be coming in too hot and too hard. If there's a choice of water or a runway at the destination, that aircraft would typically be landing on the water. The typical glideslope for that plane would be 100 to 300 feet per minute. Thats from half a line to 1 1/2 lines down on the VSI. Practice that in no wind for while (starting at a fixed altitude...say 1,500 feet) til you get used to how far away you need to be to land at an airport at sea level. ..then you'll be able to set her down pretty much anywhere once you get that distance in your head.

Hi, This is George Diemer's wonderful S-43 JRS-1 flying in Alaska...where the ILS frequencies are outside the normal..up to 119.40 for instance at this airport. , so nothing was gained with the addition of the extra gauge !! Here's a couple of pics of us coming in in as the evening draws on and the light fades, in much the same way as my piloting skills fade away as we come in to land ...and a frightful landing it was too.on the tailwheel and a big bounce ;D ;D Andy. Hi Andy, Yeah, sorry about the bounce. I am still in contact with him. I'm working trying to get it's landing configuration a bit smoother than it is now. Sorry for radical amount of trim needed to get it trimmed for landing. I'm trying to smooth that a bit. I'm not real happy with my current .air file either...but George's work is superb! ;D Yours,

Hi, I'm certain the bouncing is down to me as my computer slows up seriously when in panel view and when coming in to land I may get only 5-8 fps and it makes all my approaches things of panic because of the delay in the aircraft following my simple commands . It might be good to add a trimwheel somewhere as it's quite awkward to work out where the trim is without one. Going to do that now! For some reason the co-pilot always has a parachute by him as we come in to land. I'm getting rid of the ILS as it's more interesting without it! Andy.
