Hi all, Just a heads up that the Proboards forum here now has TOS that are quite different from the old ones. They are now written by a lawyer, and are quite long and hard to read. But you are bound by them if you use these forums, and I thought you should be aware of that. www.proboards.com/tosHope this helps,

Hi, With all the communications being done within "groups" and between "groups", I understand perfectly. It sounds like their just covering their legalassets!

Well, there goes the neighbourhood... Sections 11 and 12 should be active, informed consent, not rights assumed by PB as a consequence of some other action. PB seems to be claiming an exclusive right to spam me, send me unsolicited product information and onsell my email details to other parties - things expressly forbidden to members by Section 19. Similarly, in Section 15, PB assumes an absolute and infinite right to any member's intellectual property once it is posted in the forum, even though Section 20 requires everyone to respect copyright law. And of course, Section 1 means I can now be banned from the forum for expressing this opinion. It's a sad day. MikeW

Yes, I think they are way overboard. But the operators of the site (in the Proboards forum) insist that they will not abuse these rights...

What options exist beyond the obvious incumbent?

The only recourse is to stop using their forums...

Hi, Yeah...but I'll give them credit in that my Spam box has no more than the usual amount of junk in it... and not much of that. As to claiming "intellectual rights", we'll I guess we'll see how that plays out. They seem to be just taking all the benefits of the members, but at the same time, trying to absolve themselves of all responsibilities of what they have just claimed ownership of..... ? Kind'a reminds me of a law passed in South Dakota that states that teachers must instruct their students that global climate change is just a theory and that among other things that "effect" climate change are things like "Astrology" (..the above example is NOT a political statement, or reference, but two examples of the misuse and/or wrong word altogether used in a law that was actually signed and is now law of the State. There are several more in this same law, I just can't recall them now.) Yours,

But the operators of the site (in the Proboards forum) insist that they will not abuse these rights... I bet they say that to all the girls Seriously, though, on reading the terms of that 'contract', the phrase "harsh, unconscionable, and against the public interest" immediately sprang to mind. I don't know enough about your constitution to say whether it breaches any part of that, but when you consider that a number of American States are moving towards making it illegal to send spam and similar junk, you wouild have to wonder. But the operators of the site (in the Proboards forum) insist that they will not abuse these rights... And I now carry my Passport with me wherever I go.

I received an email awhile back that offered me a valid Green Card for x number of pesos. I guess I should have taken them up on that offer. It was cheaper than renewing my U.S. Passport.
