Hi,
Few days ago I noticed for the first time that some AI aircraft of different traffic packages show mirror-inverted flags at one side of the fuselage (mostly right side). Comparing them with real aircraft I realized that was or is a common practice. Is there any reason to put f.i. an inverted US flag on a C-130 tail? In fact historically and heraldically such a flag doesn't exist. Other examples are aircraft of Air France, Sabena, Alitalia and so on.
Any explanation concerning this subject is welcome.
Cheers, Bernard

Hi,
I don't know. Sometimes the texture is just flipped to create the other side and people don't bother flipping the flag back. I didn't know there was a "side" to the flag, since it appears backwards if you look at it from the other side.

Hi, sometimes the aircraft model is mapped in such a way that sections of the aircraft are mirrored. The default DC-3, for example, has the tail and parts ot the fuselage mapped in such a way and I believe that's the reason why Tom is using another DC-3 as AI aircraft. Best regards, Volker

Hi,
Thanks for your replies.
It's evident that certain textile flags have a normal and a inverted side. But that is more due to technical reasons. Flags having right color order one both sides would rather be carpets than flying flags! Fortunately we Swiss aren't concerned about this matter. Even putting the official square white cross on the head, the flag remains correct. They really have been quite visonary in 1848!

Hi,
Tom's attachment explains clearly why flags have to be depicted as inverted resp. simply shown as flying in the wind. On the web I saw some scale models which have been realized without considering this subtlety. And frankly speaking, neither did I! Thanks for your clarifying contribution.
Cheers, Bernard
