If they are in the scenery subfolder, this is the wrong location. They should be in the texture subfolder.

If they are in the scenery subfolder, this is the wrong location. They should be in the texture subfolder. Yes. Sorry - I should have typed "/texture". That's definitely where they were. I even overwrote them last night, getting the warning before doing so, from a fresh redownload and desktop install. So they're definitely all in the texture subfolder. dl

Make sure that the folder name is texture and not textures.

Make sure that the folder name is texture and not textures. I just dragged the whole of the ArkLaMiss folder, with their attendant texture and scenery sub folders. But I’ll check tonight when back.

Hi Tom,
I checked the texture folder and it's contents - I'm giving up on this - for now.
The truth is, my install has gotten very bloated and I'll be doing a fairly major cleanup - as part either transitioning to FSX Steam and doing a fresh install, or a transitioning to P3DV4. In either case, I don't want to spend more time troubleshooting what is likely an issue on my end. If I go the Steam route, then I'll try again. If I go the P3D4 route, I'll be contemplating a much larger MCX conversion - a whole other kettle of fish.
In the meantime, thanks for trying to help get this rolling - I'm sure I'll get it working (later, if not sooner) at some point.
cheers,
dl

OK - digging into my favourite sceneries and trying them in P3Dv4 - starting with Kai Tak. No coversion - just added it to see what would happen.
Surprisingly, for it's age, there no massive issues. As expected - the runway needs to be raised - it's at the same level as the water, and there's a bit of shoreline edge issues on the main taxiway, but not enough to keep the AI from taxiing. The curved approach beacons shone correctly, which is good.
Also surprising was that generally, no missing textures I could see - except for the checkerboard hill. I'm surprised the general airport textures showed, but not these.
If someone can advise why the checkerboard hill isn't showing, that'd be great. If it's not a massive undertaking, I'll take a stab at a conversion. Anything mentioned in Tom's tutorial I should be able to figure out the shorelines etc. But I may need a hand with the checkerboard.
thanks,
dl
PS - I should add, I did see checkerboard hill in FSX - this is a P3Dv4 issue. Thanks!

Check in P3D that you have checker.bmp in the Kai Tak/texture folder.

Yes, good question, and I that’s the first thing I checked - both it and the night texture are in the sub texture folder.
I’m starting to wonder if perhaps these’s a terrain mesh issue, such that Checkerboard Hill is higher or larger in some way in P3D vs FSX and FS9 and obscuring the placement of that texture. It’s odd that all other textures present fine. It’s all I can think of ...

What I would try is to remove the checker.bmp textures from the FSX texture folder (move them into the parent folder) and see what that looks like in FSX. If it looks the same in P3D, then the texture is not displaying. If the hill looks different in P3D, then the terrain might be at fault.

Hi Tom,
Yes, tried, that - same results. I'll fiddle with Kai Tak later - will have a look at more land-locked airports, as they may be easier to edit, and with fewer/no objects outside the perimeter.
But if someone manages to case this, please advise.
thanks,
dl

The elevation of the hill in P3D is 264 ft, while the elevation in FS2004 is 198 ft. Perhaps they are inside the hill? It's the hill with the beacon and the IGS antenna on it.

It’s what I feared - it looked larger than I recall it in FS9 and FSX but I had hoped to be wrong. Maybe there’s a mesh out here that can correct the stock P3D terrain. I thought that the included SRTM files might fix that, even relocating them to a place lower down in the scenery structure (ie, higher priority), but no...

I'm still a bit confused, because the top of the signs in FS2004 are at 304 ft, so you would expect to see 30 feet of signs above that hill, but you don't. So it's really just guessing at this point...

So it's really just guessing at this point... I agree with your assessment - it makes no sense to me either. Unless the bathymetry built into P3D assumes a slightly different "baseline" altitude, but I now I'm reaching for straws. The bottom line, as you say, is it's a huge height differential to not see it all. If someone else with P3Dv4.5 can try out the Kai Tak scenery and report back, that'd be awesome. cheers, dl
