While I lost my complete FS9 some weeks ago, this bad luck could have been an opportunity to change to FSX or P3D. Considering the whole experience I collected in the last ten years, I finally staid with FS9. Even if more than 200 GB were deleted completely, I could restore a couple of files like Afcads, flightplans or aircraft.cfg which I had modified. I use a tool called AVG PC TuneUp. This information just in case ... Of course a lot of files are too bad and can't be recovered anymore.
It also might be a good reason to improve some of my AI flights. But I used hundreds of flyable aircraft, and meanwhile some are no more available. Especially those lost with the famous AVSIM crash! However, one of my first recreation was this commemoration of the Swiss Dhaulagiri expdition in 1960. It was the first Himalayan climb supported by a fixed-wing aircraft. Unfortunately the Pilatus PC-6 Porter crashed after being sucessfully used for some days north of the mountain during takeoff and was abandoned.
in front of Dhaulagiri I
landing at the base camp at a heigh of 19000 ft - as AI of course
In order to refind more motivation (!), I bought a refurbished 27-inch display allowing to use a resolution of 2560 x 1440. It's really astonished how sharpness is improved. So hopefully I will be able to rebuilt my exciting classic world with FS9!

Thanks for the tip. Effectively the mountains are smoother and not as sharp as with Tabouret's Himalayan meshs.

Glad it helped!
Where is that scenery of the Dhaulagiri base camp? As a bit of a mountaineering enthusiast (very amateur - most of my climbs were under 4,000 m) anything mountaineering is of interest to me. And if it's Swiss - and classic?? - even better.
cheers,
dl

That' s an own creation - with some objects (f.i. woody's ez_sirp_campers). I had to flatten the landing area. FSD Pilatus Porter allow very short landing and t/o as AI. Unfortunately it's almost impossible to create AI flights working correctly near mountains.
