I had been having problems with my Classic FS9 installation similar to those from the OP, the Golden Wings and HJG "Modern" installations are running without significant issues. Today I recalled a trick that I read about here ages ago and deleted the Classic FS.CFG file. Restarting the sim rewrites the file and it was just a matter of setting up the user preferences (joystick buttons, display etc.) and editing the file to add the OLdModules.DLL and removing the Brake display.
After a couple of tests, the Classic version seems again stable and faster. No idea why this seems to solve at least some issues in FS9 but for me at least, it has.

I seem to have found the bgl's that cause the LFLY Geomodif scenery to crash FS9 (at least on my system). They're named isere_1_5 and RA_lwm_5. When I delete these two all is well. Can anyone please verify? PS Well, with the above edits I was able to start at LFLG Le Versoud but unfortunately, after a couple of miles cruising to the SE another ctd occurred... Maybe jacklyon can shed some light on this. Hi, yes, there are problem with LFLY_GEOMODIF, isere, the RA_lw_5 normally not produce any CTD. It's a problem with the river Isere, i not found why the crash happens, not need to desactivate all LFLY_GEOMODIF, just the isere* bgl I think i put in the readme. if you have ultimate terrain Europe for FS91, you not need at all LFLY_GEOMODIF, LFLY_GEOMODIF if for the rivers, and to reduce size of Lyon city if you use Ultimate Terrain Europe for FS91, you need to desactivate, roads, because the 1960 road system was not as is now
