Hello All, I'm making a diorama of the original San Jose Terminal (the one in the CC package) in the scale of 1:400. So far I have found these airliners parked outside the terminal:
Pacific 404
Pacific F-27
Pacific DC-3
Southwest Airways DC-3
Slick Airways C-46
Zantop C-46
C-46 N67936 (No livery/ Blank)
Is there anything else?
Thanks, Andy

Hi,
I don't know about that bare C-46; I don't find it in the files at this point.
I missed your original question about Aircoach. No, it's not Aerocoach; that died in 1956, but US Aircoach. My non-sked book says:
Burbank, CA. 1949-1962. Louis Powell and Wyman Reynolds, Presidents. Low fare infrequent passenger service coast to coast and to Hawaii. One way fare to Honolulu was $119. Significant military and general passenger charter operations. Cited on several occasions for excessive frequency. C-46, DC-3, and DC-4 equipment.
Hope this helps,

Hi Tom and Captrig, The C-46 (real one that I'm referring too) can be found here: www.flysanjose.com/fl/about/history/pages/plane_unknown-date_jpg.htmI'm also collector of model aircraft and also have a diorama of San Jose's terminal, which is depicted in FS. I'll show you guys it if you'd like. Would also like to add that PSA brought over an Electra near 1965, found a photo of N175PS parked outside. The caption erroneously identified the terminal as Terminal C, which was very visually different from the Original Terminal. Obvious because it's shorter height wise, the "San Jose Municipal" written on the roof, and tower. -Andy

Hi, Nice link! I didn't realize your list included aircraft in pictures of the real airport. Is the picture of the PSA 727 on that page taken at the old terminal? Hope I got the terminal reasonably correct (I didn't have a lot of pictures to go on). I wouldn't mind seeing your diorama - thanks.

If anyone is looking at doing vintage scenery for San Jose I have approach plates and airport charts from the mid 50s onward for this airport.
Happy to scan and upload them to my Flickr page.

Hi Tom and John, Yep, I collect aircraft in 1:400 so I try to find whatever came over. Already have two 20 page master lists of traffic for SJC and SFO (1960s-2000/2010) if anybody's interested. If you're referring to this: www.flysanjose.com/fl/about/history/pages/psa_passengers-enplaning_09_jpg.htmthen no. That was taken outside of the 1965 built Terminal (later called Terminal C). You can tell by the observation deck (the people on top) and the Terminal roof - it's a challenge to model the arches. I would take their captions with a grain of salt for they have some dates that conflict many other sources. This could be the inaugural PSA 727 flight or it is the sightseeing flight they had when it first opened. You did a nice job on the Terminal, thanks for the textures. I used them on this diorama too. However it looks like 30R was a bit farther than the Terminal. Can't find any images of it connected to the Terminal - 30L taxiway. The old terminal also had a tower but I don't know when it was built. Your photo doesn't show it so I guess it's correct. Still, very nice job and captures the feel of old SJC. Would love to see the plates and charts John. Thanks in advance. BTW, have you seen this photo of some United props (DC-7s?) being scrapped at SFO? Very sad sight: media.flysfo.com/museum/collection/images/42289.jpgHere is a photo of a DC-3 at the old terminal. No manufacturer in 1:400 dares to make all these nonskeds so a United will have to substitute. A Pacific F-27 arrived today so I'll shoot it later: The 1965 Terminal acquired a pier in 1969, here are some.....jets.....in the 80s. -Andy

Fine photos of SJC, yellowribbon.
And a nice assortment of photos of Jim Nissen, one of the founders of the airport. I have flown out of his private airport - Meadowlark Field "63CN" - in east Livermore several times and used to see him at airshows flying his restored Jenny. Some of those photos show a boy on a glider captioned "young boy with glider." My son in law who knew Mr Nissen quite well says that young boy is Jim Nissen and the glider is one that he built and flew when he was 12 years old. He was a graduate of UC Berkeley (physics I think) and was a pilot for Pan American and the US Navy on the Boeing Clipper and other flying boats.
Also a nice aerial photo of the lagoon at SFO and part of UAL's base. The piers where the Pan Am flying boats tied up are still there in the picture; also the concrete ramp used to haul the flying boats out of the water on "dollies." I see the South Pacific Air Lines Solent just above the Slick Airways hangar. But no American Airlines hangar yet above it so the picture must have been taken around 1962.
-- I didn't notice until recently that in that lagoon picture -- in the lagoon itself is the fuselage of Martin 202 N93061, ex Northwest, Transocean and Southwest Airways aircraft; it was burned in a hangar fire at SFO in 1955; in the lagoon it was being used to train flight attendants on ditching procedures.

I'm also collector of model aircraft and also have a diorama of San Jose's terminal, which is depicted in FS. Sorry, it is slightly out of context but I'm confused. Andy ist talking about the terminal depicted in FS. I partially have some elements generated by files in CalClassic Core folder. There some texture files for KSJC terminal in Static Objects Library. But it seems that I miss a bgl file. And it's not included in CA59/CA62 folders. Here what I get:

Hi,
That file should have been placed into the CalClassic Core/scenery folder by the California scenery installer. Of course, that will need to be an active layer in the Scenery Library and should be listed below other classic scenery layers.
Hope this helps,

Have uploaded charts for San Jose covering the period from 1953 to 1970 to my Flickr page and created an album for them. Link to the album: www.flickr.com/photos/12530375@N08/albums/72157667393976486Some how a pic from San Jose, Costa Rica got into the album. Probably safer to leave it there. John
