Yes... you read that right. Amerijet... the big, bad 727 and 767 cargo operator out of KMIA started with a DC-3 among a few other aircraft. (Cessna 402's and Falcon 20's...) Check this out. I offically have had my mind blown. This would look great on the Manfred Jahn FS9 model.

Essentially... They started out like how everyone else did down in Southern Florida. Cargo and PAX from the mainland to the islands and 'keys around the 1980's. Who would have ever thought Amerijet would have started its ops so humbly. That's like finding out FedEx started with Cessna's or something... (Which I think they did... C310's(?))

I am probably wrong but I think Fed Ex started with business jets converted to cargo planes. Regards, Aharon In Northern California we controllers started seeing FedEx in the mid 1970s flying Dassault Falcon jets. They were calling themselves "Federal Express" and for a while we did not know if they were government aircraft or a private outfit. Later around 1981 when I was working at the Denver ARTCC we regularly worked a half dozen FDX Falcons into and out of Pueblo Airport around 4am on the midshift. The Falcon's range was such that it was necessary for them to refuel there before continuing on to the West Coast. Our radio transceivers were at KPUB so we could talk to the aircraft on the ground, issue clearances etc. Fun times.

The Amerijet DC-3C N8064A was de-registered in 1988.
According to Wikipedia, Amerijet started operations in 1974 as a charter cargo/passenger line operating a leased Cessna 401 flying from the U.S. to the Bahamas. In 1976 they switched to cargo only operations.
