I've been working on rebuilding my FS setup on the new machine for about two weeks now, and something just hit me. I've installed gigabytes of material, mostly from California Classic, ranging from vintage propliners to AI traffic, and from scenery packages to sound environments. The amount of material is astounding. And I have yet to pay for anything. Thanks to all our developers who make efforts to share their hobby with the rest of the FS world. I am truly humbled, and forever appreciative. Al

Hi, and thanks for the kind and encouraging words! It's knowing how much people enjoy this hobby that keeps we developers busy producing whatever part of FS it is we enjoy creating. Keeping this a free and voluntary hobby is the key to keeping this hobby fresh and going. Get ready for a couple new sceneries from me (one is a multi-country package) in the upcoming weeks, from a new and far off part of the world. Years ago Tom and I talked when he and I were painting US and Canadian AI, and then decided to branch off on a few European repaints. At this time we only were going to do AI for the USA, Canada, Mexico and just the European planes that flew to North America. He asked me, "Well, I have material and lists for the airlines and equipment, how far do you want to take this whole thing?" And I said, "Um..well, ok, let's do the world." he answered back "the WHOLE world"? And I said, "Sure, let's do the entire world" and that was that. I hoped that by creating AI and later on sceneries of far off and distant places, we could encourage people to "fly outside of their box" and go someplace new and different. So it's nice to hear these kind words. cheers, Mike

Flying outside the box it is! I've definitely opened up my eyes recently and seen more of the FS world. In the recent past, I have flown propliners around northern Europe, cruised down the Norwegian fjords in a Seneca, explored Hong Kong and the Far East in everything from 727s to Archers, and completed a multi-day journey from London to Sydney (and points in between) in David Maltby's BOAC Comet IV. Having the traffic and scenery to match makes it all possible. I was thinking about giving something back sometime soon. I've been fiddling with scenery design for years now, and recently completed my first "full" scenery of Cordele, GA. I learned a lot, mostly how to deal with software induced anxiety The other day I stumbled across some information and photos about Florida airports in the 1950s and 1960s. Being one of few natural born Floridians, and having grown up with picnics at FLL next to Corrosion Corner and visits to the EAL Headquarters at MIA, this piqued my interest! So...who knows? Al

Hi, Thanks for all the kind words - they really do make it all worthwhile. I'm sitting here with a stupid grin on my face. Miami would be a great place to start - there is quite a bit of material on the web about it, and the current airport looks nothing like the old one. Besides, other than IDL I don't think there is an airport with the variety of aircraft than at MIA.

Tom,
Miami would be next on my list! Where exactly can I find that information you're talking about?

I would like to add my thanks to Tom and the Clclassic gain as well, for all of the work they have put in to the aircraft and scenery.

Tom,
Did you know that at one time Manchester EGCC used to have for it's code MIA (Manchester International Airport) and because of the MIA Miami they had to change it to MAN, I think if my memory is correct it was in the 1980's but I'm not 100% sure.
Came back to add: We also had a slogan 'Fly VIA MIA' you pronounced the MIA as Mee-Aah.

Tom, Thanks for the Miami links! I've been doing some more research, and bungled across a goldmine of aerial photos of Florida, ranging in dates from the 1930s to 1991. MIA, FLL, MLB...all there in amazing clarity! I'm...speechless right now...must...contain...excitement...and...stay away from...AFCAD... Al
