Have uploaded a Piedmont Airlines 1967 Timetable to my Flickr page. Have a couple of these from an old Piedmont Jeppesen Manual that I have in my collection. The timetable may be of interest to those who like flying U.S. rural services. Personally, I was surprised at just how much territory Piedmont covered. Wow this is awesome, thanks!
Having backdated all Piedmont stations in 1958, and planning to expand that to 1962 or maybe 1966, you could say I'm interested in this airline.
That's not just because before I got seduced into the easier and more lucrative computer industry I aimed to be a professional pilot with my goal being to fly for Piedmont.
I think they have a fascinating story, culture, and history. For our purposes they span the classic era from 1948 until whatever year you want to pick for the transition to modern aviation.
Their route map is indeed larger than most people think, and constantly expanding until by the end in 1989 they stretched from Los Angeles to London England.
But the most interesting thing to me is their commitment to customer service. This came straight from the top. On the very first flight in February 1948 (a DC-3 from Wilmington NC to Cincinnati OH) the flight was of course packed with high airline officers and mayors (or their representatives) from the cities the flight would stop at - a publicity event of course. There was only one ordinary paying customer. But when it came time to board Tom Davis (President of Piedmont) insisted that passenger board before any of the dignitaries. If that was a signal it took very well in the airline's culture, from that first flight to the last.
I like to think this was the secret to their amazing success.

PS. I've been looking for the company routes Piedmont flew. Anyone who has any pointers on where I could find them, that would be appreciated.
