I'm guessing my 8 year old computer, which has no problem at all with FS9 and FSX, would probably be able to run this new version at 1 or 2 FPS. Until I can afford an upgrade, this new version probably won't show up on my credit card. I doubt we would ever see any of the classics completely redone from scratch (provided an SDK is even provided)for this version as well. Yes, the graphics are fantastic and I can see it appealing to a new generation of simmers, but I think that most of us on this forum will probably not be rushing out to get it once it's released. It will be interesting to see whee they go with it though.
Regards,
Phil

This came as a bit of a surprise to me. After all, Microsoft left Flight Sim years ago, licensing FSX to Dovetail. Maybe it's just FSX with better graphics, but I think it will have a hard push against the likes of P3D and X-Plane. Yep, it will be interesting to see where they go with it, but me with my Windows 7, 15 year old computer will be sitting on the sidelines watching.

I'm taking a wait and see approach.

From a vintage freeware perspective, i'm not sure if this is a good news.
To much simulators, the few developers that do vintage scenery, will disperse a lot.
Is because, FS91 got 16 years old, and FSX/P3D got 10 years old, that a BIG library of freeware vintage scenerys exist.
And vintage scenerys, is a too little part of market..., that why we not see "payware vintage civil scenery add ons"
From a modern scenery perspective, maybe it's good news, i don't know.
I not think i will adopt soon another simulator, (FS91 & P3D4 it's enough to me).

I'm not getting too excited by this news. The fact that it looks like X box will have it suggests a game over a sim. Watching with detached interest.

Hmm, didn't pick up on that when I saw the trailer. It's an X-Box and PC release. I've got an X-Box (*cough* got it for my son *cough*), and I can't see a proper flight sim on it: it'll just be another "flying game", no doubt with superb graphics. And on a console you can forget about 3rd party add-ons.
I'm still puzzled as to why Microsoft thinks they have to be getting back into Flight Simulator again after abandoning it all those years ago.
"Watching with detached interest" indeed.

While this video looks awesome and is exciting to watch I'm restraining my excitement until we know more. After all, this is probably at least a year from release. At least.
The bottom line question for me is how open it will be. And secondarily, how compatible. But even if it's not binary compatible with previous versions if it's open, developers will likely flock to it if they can. Greedily setting up walls will ruin it. We just don't know much right now.
Except competition is good, and this looks like it will raise the bar at least visually.

Same here. " Xbox Game Studios presents..." and then a bunch of eye candy, which in turn gets analysed as probably 'doctored' for this presentation. I wish them a lot of fun! Erik

I'm still happy with FS9, but the graphics in the release video certainly look appealing.

My son has an X-Box, and with the exception of maybe a car racing game, I can't think of any "game" that requires the level of weather, especially real time weather, that's detailed in this clip. Gamers probably won't have a clue about the effects of icing, barometric pressure, jet streams etc... that a true flight simmer is aware of and it's effect on aircraft performance. The weather engine that they're developing far exceeds any other that I've seen in any of the games my son plays, or for that matter, needs. I really think that although this is labeled as an X-Box game, the PC version is going to be geared more to the "hobbyist", which is what I like to think we all are, as opposed to the "gamers". Yeah, I've already started to work on the Mrs. about how our current computer needs an upgrade due to it's age. lol
