Hi all! I'm an avid simmer, and have been flying the great models provided by Cal Classics for a LONG time. I've had this question for a while now. I've had the DC-6 and DC-7s for FSX and now P3D v4+ (thank you so much for that). But I've wondered if anyone has attempted or approached you all to do air tanker versions of both these aircraft? The freighter and liner versions are great. But the air tanker corner of these airframes has been left out (that way on a lot of aircraft actually). I have the JBK DC-4/C-54 tanker and Greg Pepper's CV-580 tanker. But I've been missing those other two great props. The DC-6 isn't in fire fighting service anymore, but Erickson still flies 3 of their DC-7s on fires in the PNW and in parts of California. Although, their time may be limited now as the fire fighting industry as a whole is moving mostly to jet and turbine powered aircraft. I'm partial to the DC-7 myself as it's one of my favorite tankers. I'm also asking as I am a founder and am a repainter for a group called Simulated Air Tanker Operations that has a small following. But air tankers are a really lightly touched niche in the FS community and thought I'd reach out and see if it was at all possible to perhaps see if those tanker versions could be brought to life. Thank you again for your great models over the years. Here's a DC-7 repaint I've been working on to represent Erickson's DC-7s:

I don't have the repaints available yet, I'm still working on them, as you know I have a number of other air tanker repaint stuff I'm working on. I was making an inquiry on here that maybe Cal Classic's team could possibly put tanks on their great DC-6 and DC-7 models as they have the best versions of both aircraft in my opinion. There's a lot of people on the FB page wanting those tanker versions. Which is why I'm around on the forums asking as of late. As I said before, the liners and freighters are great, but the air tanker realm still remains largely untouched for a number of aircraft. DC-6, DC-7, and L-188 are a few that come to mind.

How come you managed to paint Erikson livery on firefighting version of DC-7 with bottom tank as seen on your preview screenshot?? Or is it payware DC-7? Regards, Aharon

Oh, it's a model merge it's a very rough tank I used MCX to do it. I should have clarified that in the original post actually. It's not the correct tank nor does it fit on the model completely right. I can't release that to the public as it's a modification to the model, plus as I said that's a rough tank. Which is why I was asking if there was a way for the actual tanks be modeled and put on these DC-6s and DC-7s.

If the tank model is the one from my CV-580 conversion, feel free to release it as long as you give proper credit to everybody involved in the manual/readme.

A nice idea.
While at university, I fought fires for the BLM as a helitac crewman and later foreman on summer breaks. Over the years, I saw a B-17, a PB4Y, C-119s and PV2 firefighting aeroplanes. I never did see a DC 6 though. That would have been a treat.

I will be sure to do so on the release description and in the pack readme when it comes out. The DC-6 I think was overshadowed in aerial firefighting in the US at least, because of the heavy use and availability of the DC-4/C-54s. I know in California growing up there was only 1 DC-6 flying around on fires compared to probably a dozen or so of the DC-4/C-54s. The DC-6 I remember was owned by TBM inc. T-68, which was a very unique painted DC-6, she was all chrome with the AA Livery with the lightning bolt down the side and a bright red tail. I think only a few US operators even had the DC-6, TBM, Aero Union, and maybe a few others. But those were before my time, just the one that I remember from TBM. I believe Conair in Canada and Securite Civile in France operated them as well at one point. The DC-7s are still flying around in the Pacific Northwest and sometimes California. But who knows for how much longer.
