Hi all Jens -- thanks for a great aircraft. In the late 70s - early 80s once in a while I would see an ex Cubana Britannia which at that time was in about as rough shape as possible while still being (sort of) airworthy. It's great to finally play with one. I found an RR Tyne sound package which while not totally accurate, does mimic the Yukon / CL44s at least. Nice job! Warren

Hi Warren,
There is a nice Proteus soundset available at Flightsim.com (britsnd.zip). From what I remember of the last two "Whispering Giants" (ex-BOAC 312s, owned by Monarch) I saw and heard, the sound is quite realistic.
Cheers, Maarten

Tom
Do your improvements include a small change to the nose area of the existing model to alter the look which is "just not quite right" ??!!
Richard.

Ha! Funny you should mention that. Yes it does. Not perfect but it looks a lot better. It slopes down more and is not so pointed. It also has 3D horizontal stabs (and one is not black). I can also tell you that Mike and I created a CL-44 while we were at it.

Tom also created new horizontal stabilizers on the C-46 so they now have depth, and added polygon smoothing to the B-307's tail so that it no longer has that weird shadow look. Tom also reworked the engine nacells on the CL-44 so that now they look like Tynes.

Hi again all Haven't been able to follow the forums too closely but I've had just a liitle time to work with the new Britannnia. If my memory serves me correctly years (and years) ago I worked around a British Eagle machine that I believe had a cargo door. Just wondering if anyone knows if this configuration exists or might be available anywhere. Just an old "freight guy" at heart I guess. Thanks Warren

Today, I uploaded two CSA (Czhekoslovak Airlines) repaints of the Britannia to Avsim. They are ready for download.
Best regards, and thanks for liking the model,
Jens

Hi, According to this site 2 ex-Transcontinental Britannias were converted by British Eagle to freighters: www.britisheagle.net/History-British-Eagle.htmBut other than those 2, I don't know of any other Brit freighters. And I don't know of a freighter model...

Thanks Tom I can remember unoading pallets from the british Eagle machine that were so heavy the casters had punctured the metal floor. No one thought anything about it in those days. We just jacked them up and unloaded. Warren

Hi, According to this site 2 ex-Transcontinental Britannias were converted by British Eagle to freighters: www.britisheagle.net/History-British-Eagle.htmBut other than those 2, I don't know of any other Brit freighters. And I don't know of a freighter model... There were others, for instance Redcoat Cargo Airlines and IAS Cargo Airlines. I believe there is an ex-IAS Britannia pilot on the Classic British Flightsim forum ( www.cbfsim.org/cbfsim/cbfsBB/ ) who could probably tell more. I think the very last Britannia flying was working cargo flights in the Congo. Once again fullest commendations to Jens for his wonderful work - he has made my day (or year!) as I have a particular liking for the Brits. That's what stars in my avatar! Best wishes, John

Thank you for the "upgrade" John.....No, I was a loadmaster for IAS for almost five years almost entirely on the Brit and the 44. (couldn't make any per-diem on the DC8!!!). Jens has caught her essence , and I am afraid I may have stirred up a hornets nest elsewhere about the sound -- Frasers britsnd is about the best available but still more like a Tyne than a Proteus. And to answer Toms question -- There were actually two cargo doors fitted to many Britannia's - The first was referred to as a "Bristol" door - and its the one that Jens has modeled on Victor Alpha they were the same door that was fitted to the C2's - Eagle actually did the mod themselves although it was to Bristol spec. Later ATEL fitted most of the remaining 300s with larger (3 hinge) doors which allowed standard 108 inch pallets to be easily loaded (The complete mod included pallet tracks and a ball mat) Both doors had two positions - first at about 80 degrees and a second position at about 140 degree's. The second position required a jury arm be fitted to stop it being blown over center. 300 Freighters were operated by Eagle, Callie,Donaldson,Invicta,Monarch,BUA,IAS,African Safari (with the rather twee Zebra tail) Aer Turas, Invicta, and of course Redcoat who shoved my favorite Britannia in the ditch at Luton and let the Fire department defile her...G-AOVS.!!! Jens -- I dont mean to nit pick but the Flight deck in VC is a bit off -- There is no Engineers panel and work table, and the position against the aft right bulkhead was at one time the Radio Operators position and on the G-AN registered aircraft was a single seat, but one the G-AOV aircraft (F/P/S) was a double seat - on the left aft side was the Navs position which also on the 300 had a double seat and a LARGE plotting table, and yes, IAS employed Navs especially for the Indian Ocean flights down to Perth - the aircraft was fitted with a perismatic sextant socket in the roof directly forward of the flight deck door. If anyone wants to fly the Brit on a typical Cargo rotation - you will need a strong constitution. IAS operated a three times a week flight from Gatwick to Algiers to Lagos to either Lusaka or Ndola then empty to Kinshasha back up to Nairobi then back via Jeddah and Malta to Gatwick, they also operated Gatwick - Akkers - Sharjah and back - and a weekly service between Gatwick and Meherabad (Shah days!). Hope that helps some Leif Oh yes I registered to get my hands on the updated CV580 fde and panel I hear is about to appear.
