Removed FSX a few months ago in an attempt to clean out the drive on my computer. Did a re-install this AM. When it was finished installing there was no start icon on the desktop even though I had checked that box when starting the setup. Open the FSX main file, there was not one there either. Uninstalled the whole thing and started over. Still no icon. Where might it have gone ? Is there another way to start the program ?
Thanks in advance,
Perplexed in Maine,
Mike

Is there another way to start the program ? There should also be a start icon in your documents folder "Flight Simulator X Files". This is also where FSX store flightplans, cfg's etc.
Hope this works , Regards, Frank Edtit: I use FSX-SE, so this should be the same as the original FSX

Do not let FSX install into the default file location, it will cause all kinds of problems with modern operating systems which protect the "Program Files" folder. Since you have the chance now, with a new installation, fix this problem before it's too late! Change the install location!

Yeah, I always install directly to the 'C' drive and name it FSX or FS9 whichever I'm working with. Learned that one back in Windows 7.
Only thing listed in Flight Simulator in the documents folder is "logbook".

Hi,
The other way to start the program is to double click the FSX.exe file.
To make your own shortcut:
1. Right click on FSX.exe and choose Make Shortcut. 2. Move this shortcut onto the desktop. 3. Rename it as you like.

Did manage to find the exe file in the main FSX folder. Didn't see it before as it was just a plain looking file. Not the usual FSX launch icon and didn't end in exe. Anyway, it works. Created a shortcut on the desktop and I'm in business.
Thanks all. Mike

You can change that behavior (no exe extension) by going to Folder Options and unchecking Hide Extensions for Known File Types.
