Just found out that UP 844 is going to be in my area this weekend. A west coast tour from Cheyenne to Oakland and return. The Loco is in Sparks, NV right now, departing for Roseville friday am. spends the weekend in Roseville and then to Oakland on Monday. Already told my better half that we're going to Roseville this weekend- ok with her as along as we stop at the Galleria. Check out www.steamcentral.com/ for info on all live steam movements. The locomotive is also on twitter. Hy

That's pretty rare - it doesn't come that far west very often. I'm also waiting for ATSF 3751 coming down to San Diego on May 3rd.
Enjoy,

WOW, what a great video. My goosebumps are just starting to settle down after hearing that steam whistle. I was following their twitter when they came over those hills.
I live in the Bay Area and am just a few miles from where 844 will be rolling through Fremont. Plan to take my 15 year old son to experience this in person. Trains and planes. Love them both.

Saw 844 this morning! Stood on a grassy knoll within about 50 feet of the tracks waiving the Stars and Stripes as it went by. Everyone in the doorways of the coaches was waiving and the engineer blew that awesome whistle. What a site.
