Hi all,
I thought I would post a message about the current situation so there would be no surprises in case things change without any warning.
I have been having some medical issues this past year, and some are serious enough that there is the very slight possibility that I might not be around here anymore, hopefully a while from now. I am in my 70s and thus things are not as stable as they used to be. So I would like to give all of you a heads up about what would happen in that case.
First, the site itself would remain up for something like 2 months to a year, depending on how soon the payments to the ISP stop. It’s by direct payment from my bank account so that would continue until the account is closed. All files stored on my server would then disappear. I have suggested for a while that people download everything they think they will need. In addition, I will be updating the CalClassic Archive Project files at flightsim.com so they have the latest versions.
Then there is this forum. It is a free service and thus will continue on. But I don’t believe that the alternate administrators I set up years ago come here very often anymore, so the site’s maintenance would probably suffer. Thus new members would not be approved and spam not removed. If someone who has been here a while and posted regularly wants to take on that task send me a private message (not a reply to this message).
Finally there is the issue of FS development. My pre-carpal tunnel symptoms have become so severe that I have started using my left hand to move the mouse. This means I can no longer use it quickly and accurately. This will prevent me from using programs like ADE and GMAX, so my days developing for FS are over. This means the updated files I send to flightsim.com will be the last versions for the most part.
Please do not panic, nothing is going to happen soon and I could be here for years. I feel OK right now and am enjoying my retirement.
My best wishes,
