Have noticed over quite some time that some bridges have appeared in various sceneries. The attached pic of the default Bermuda is just an example. Another one I have is on the Brisbane River (my home town) which was not there once, as I had used that part of the River for flying the Sandringham. The bridge now makes that impossible. The bridge in Bermuda is not part of the standard scenery as another member does not have it appearing in his scenery. I thought at one stage that it could have happened after I installed the FS9 Update but now I'm not so sure. If anyone can pinpoint the problem and how they can be removed it would be very much appreciated. Thanks John

Hi John,
I could removed it with an excluding rectuangle while using AFX tool. Should also work with ExcBuilder.

Hi,
Those bridges do appear when you install the 9.1 update. As I remember they can indeed be removed by ExcBuilder using the “exclude all” option. They are essentially autogen. They can also be removed by Sbuilder by excluding roads in that square area.

Those bridges do appear when you install the 9.1 update. At the end, is there really a crucial need to install the update? Obvisouly it particularly adds bridges where they shouldn't be.

Hi Bernard and Tom
Thank very much for your replies. That does solve the mystery for myself.
The main reason for the installation of the update was that I was getting system crashes on long overwater flights, being in Australia something that is hard to avoid. It would be fine for a couple of hours and then the Sim just crashed and turned itself off and that was the end of the flight. I recall from quite a while back that other users also had the same problem. So unfortunately it seems the bridges problem is a better option than the system crashes.
Just wondering why on earth the update would put them in.
Again, thank you for your help.
John

According to MS they were always intended to be in the sim, but were either forgotten or they ran out of time. So they were added by the update. I assume there is a bridge there in the modern day, and it needs to be removed to backdate the area?
And the main reason for the update was indeed to minimize out of memory errors, which is a good thing.

Oh, how I wish they had just forgotten about them.

MS doesn't just show the modern era bridges, I've seen bridges where there is still only a ferry! So must be programmed to insert (automatically?) a bridge where the water crossing is less than a certain distance and/or the road at each side has the same number or name.
Sometimes wish there was a way to remove all FS roads as they're pretty ugly anyway....

I believe you should be able to edit the terrain.cfg file to do that, although I’ve never tried.

I installed a very basic FS9 without update. Even the express setup generates the bridge near Bermuda Airport.
As for the roads mentioned by Bill, the could be removed by deleting the RD9xxxx.bgl files in the Scenery folders.

I keep an original install on my system with the 9.1 update and Bernard is right it is there. However, I have been unable to remove it using Instant Scenery exclusion. It just won't go away while everthing else around the airport responds to exclusions. I guess this is an anomaly of some kind with this bridge.
Yet Ken Lawson's system does not have it so something is excluding it, perhaps global mesh or some other commercial worldwide addon?

You are right, a simple exclude file will not remove this - it is considered a terrain road. Only a program like SBuilder or Ground2K4 can remove it, using a terrain exclude in a given square.

That makes sense Tom, we shall try that.

As Al said above my system, complete with 9.1 update, does not feature this bridge so naturally I have not done anything to remove it.

Curious, very curious. Looks like an IS exclusion ... BTW, FREEflow Bermuda replaces the bridge by a curved one. Bernard
