Hello,
I recently posted a link in the thread "Where can I get the DH Heron?" and I noticed when I hovered the mouse over it, the link is actually to the viglink web site.
Could somebody please check and see if they get the same result?
It looks like URLs are being captured for dubious purposes, but I can't tell if this is the forum site or something insidious on my computer. I am pretty careful about my security, so I'm hoping nothing has crept onto my system.

I get the same John but it could be quite legitimate. Google shows Viglink details.
Perhaps a CBFS member could check with them.

Thanks, Bill,
It isn't legitimate to capture URLs (in Europe) and it appears this firm gleefully sell your browsing information for cash.
I am a member of other forums on the Proboard system, and I don't think those have Viglink interception so maybe it is something Tom can turn off?

John, your post shows the URl, but without a direct link. By copying and inserting it in website informations I get the download site. It seems that the site has just been updated some days ago.

Bernard . That's because I edited it to be so. It seems that if you paste the URL into a message without the https:// it doesn't create a link. I'm sorry if I sound neurotic about this, but I do personally find having my posts silently modified like that quite alarming. John

There is no setting I can change for that. This is one of the costs of using a free forum site. I have noticed that it seems rather random whether you get a direct link or not. I do not know the algorithm.

I just checked my latest link posts and they are all viglink, so it appears they all are converted now.

Thanks, Tom. I realise why I only recently discovered this but there is certainly a contradiction of opinions! I used to use Norton Internet Security and they mark Vigilink links as a dangerous site and block access. I recently changed to different security software which it seems isn't as picky. But of course, anybody making money out of this would say it is safe. :)
Anyway, don't worry about it, I can work round it.
Thanks for your time, and best regards,
John
