Just an observation. Lurking around flightsim.com, I noticed the most popular downloads are fs2004, and some fsx and p3d. I get CalClassic aircraft have recently been uploaded there, which might contribute to that somewhat. But I find it interesting that msfs is a distant 4th. Is it because there just isn't enough content yet? Or is the new sim is not that popular. Is it a fps hog? The screen shots look fantastic. Anyways, I thought it was interesting. Allen

That is interesting indeed. I assume it’s because aircraft and scenery are now more difficult to produce, so most of it is payware. The front page is full of such announcements.

The administrator says the redesign is still in progress, and they are aware of numerous missing features. Perhaps we should give them a couple weeks to flesh it out.
Allen,
I think this has to do somewhat with inertia. For some reason the user group of FS11 didn't gravitate to the likes of FlightSim.com and Avsim. Perhaps because of the 'outdated' design, the assumption that they weren't relevant to the new sim, who knows. The community seems to have formed their own places (some I think are inferior). This might have been a part of previous users being shy or dismissive of the new sim.
EDIT: I know a few people who don't want to have a user account to access files.
I also think FS11 has a content problem. The overwhelming majority of addons are scenery. Very few true freeware planes seem to exist. I suspect issues with SDK support, some mod unfriendly aspects of aircraft design, and possibly the large demands the new graphical fidelity places on creators.
Just some ideas.

From what I hear, MSFS is technically still in beta - quite why people open their wallet to be a tester I don't know. But apparently there is much yet to be fixed, and as the fixes come along, there are quite significant changes made to how it works. Reading the Classic British Flightsim forum (which rarely mentions anything other than MSFS these days) the developers of add-ons are constantly having to be update their products to make them continue working. I'm not surprised there aren't many free add-ons being developed - the few that have done so are probably regretting it!
It seems you have to have an "account" to even blow your nose on the internet these days, which irritates me. When I woz brung up, an account was all to do with money but that isn't (we are told) the purpose of having all these different accounts. Then it must be for some other reason, hmmmm - I couldn't possibly believe they are amassing information about us all. Personally, I accept it is a necessary evil and put up with the idea when I feel it is necessary.
Best regards,
John

MSFS is still very much a work in progress, and things get broken with each major update and must be patched or even reinstalled after patching. As I understand it, much of MSFS, other than scenery, is encrypted, so only authorized developers can create or modify content. Maybe one day MSFS will be complete and more open to freeware development, but until then, I'll be sticking with FSX and perhaps migrate to Prepar3D for a 64-bit flight sim.

Hmm. I wonder how long before TrainSim changes?
