So why this airport. Well it started out with me sending DeltaDart a Traffic File for the 159th Fighter Squadron of the Floridia ANG flying the F-102 starting in 1960 out of Imeson Field in Jacksonville Fl. However Mike Pearson only painted the later version of the 70s in Camo scheme. Thinking that was it and working on other projects with DeltaDart at the time, some days later I received an email from Deltadart containing a repaint of the F-102 in the proper color scheme of the early 1960s and he informed me they were not in the right spot at Imeson Field. I was using the 1962 Imeson Field Scenery by Tom which was done a very long time ago and made of standard objects and of course missing the ANG area that was present in 62. So I decided to make a few changes to the AFCAD to get the ANG parking in the correct spot. So with the help of Historic Aerials and John Hewson’s album on Imeson Field, one thing led to another like Dan French jumping in and providing custom terminal and hangars and Deltadart started painting all the aircraft types flown by the 159th since late 1954 and here are the results, a completely new KJIF Jacksonville Imeson Airport with with ANG and GA traffic added from 1954 to 1962 and now handles all the commercial traffic.
Not only did we totally redo it but there are two separate versions of the airport to handle the changes Imeson was going through at the time in both the commercial terminal the the location of the ANG ramp. The two versions generally cover 1955-57 traffic and version 2 covers the airport from 59 to 62.
So here are some shots starting with 1955
Here is the commercial ramp area with the new custom terminal and National hangar.
A view from the street side with custom gas station for the 55-57 era. Dan even added a car jack in the open bay and we put a car on it.
Here is the GA area with all custom hangar and buildings by Dan. We have included a single additional GA traffic file that adds aircraft but thefy generally stay put so as not to interfere with other traffic. Just there to add some realism.
Inspiration for the above shot came from this picture from John’s album.
Now to the 159th FIS ANG area in 1955 to sometime in 1957 when the ANG moved to a new area built for it on the NE side of the Airport. First, we offer two different traffic files for 1955 year and you will need to decide which. In late 1954 the 159th was flying an assortment of aircraft
From Wikipedia:
From October to December 1954, the 159th was equipped with nine different types of aircraft such as the T-6 Texan, B-26 Invader, C-45 Expeditor, C-47 Skytrain, C-54 Skymaster, F-51H Mustang, T-33 Shooting Star, F-80 Shooting Star, and F-86A Sabre. By the end of December 1954, things settled down and the 159th had an entire squadron of F-80Cs for the second time.
So for those who like variety here is the late 1954 traffic with all aircraft described above, most custom painted by Deltadart
For those who want true 1955 ANG traffic, the All F-80 version is also included.
Now we move to 1962 where we now activate the 59-62 version of the scenery. The Terminal as undergone several changes and fingers have now been added with modified parking. The old gas station and several buildings are gone and the car entrance as gone through some changes.
The ANG is now in its new location at the NE side of the field. This move occurred sometime in 1957 so it will be off from the scenery as version 1 covers 1955 & 57 with the ANG located in the original area and version 2 of the scenery covering 1959-62 has moved the ANG to the new location.
1959 traffic has the F86L’s present and the 1962 traffic will have the F-102s present.
Release is not too far off but still a few things to do.
Stay tuned
