This is an odd one. I have just installed the Lyons Grumman Goose as modified by FS Aviator and have been very pleased with it. It flies beautifully and the graphics show just what can be done with FS9 but seldom has been. However, it seems unique in another respect too. My computer has a small light which flashes when the ssd hard drive is working - I'm not sure whether this is just the C Drive or the two other SSDs as well. FS is on one of the others, although of course certain FS files are on the C drive anyway. When the Goose is loaded the light is flashing continuously, which I assume means the hard drive is working very hard, and this is not the case with other aircraft. If I load the default flight and replace the Cessna with the Goose the continous flashing starts with the Goose. It looks to me as though I would be better abandoning it. Any thoughts would be appreciated, especially on what it might be about this model that is causing this phenomenon.

My guess is a missing texture that FS is trying to find? Load the plane into ModelConverterX and see if the log reports any missing texture. Don’t save it though, MCX can’t do that.

Thanks both. I have a feeling it may have something to do with the way I installed it. The link on Tom's Planes page to the Goose is dead and I eventually found it elsewhere, but the Lyons used an installer and I installed it outside FS and then copied across, thus omitting scenery and a lot of ai aircraft and flights which I didn't want. There can't be anything wrong with an aircraft which has been available for so many years and was used by FS Aviator in his tutorial because it would have been reported long ago, but nothing I have tried has worked. However, I don't want to distract anybody from important work on Loran.

I can stop the constant running of the hard drive by disabling the panel, though if I go into the vc without gauges it is still raining. It seems to be raining whatever you do. Is this normal?

I doubt it. I assume the disk access is due to some panel activity that is constantly repeating. I try to avoid that in my panels.

Yes, you were right. I have solved it by disabling some of the gauges I regard as non-essential. I can give a list if anybody else is interested. I suspect the one that recorded engine hours. However, research on SSDs has suggested that reading them causes no wear at all, just writing, and that takes a very long time to have an effect. Even so, I am pleased to have it working as it is now, and in the course of these things I have also discovered the Greg Pepper - Michael Verlin Grumman HU16 Albatross, which is well worth having. Thanks as always, Ken
