Almost two years ago, Tom released the 1955 traffic package. Then he again created another important addon with numerous additional repaints and the corresponding extensive AI flightplans.
Since then I have read just few comments, opinions and reports about this work here. Excepted, of course, those done in relation with the recent and welcome scenery releases from Bill, Ken, and Al. Nevertheless, I would like to know, if some of you use this traffic regularly. If so, it would be interesting to know what experiences you have made with it uo to now. Especially about how traffic is set in a slightly different environment compared to the early Sixties. Namely also with regard to partly changed airport structures.
The FS can only be further developed and enhanced thanks to some useful input, and in particular our classic era.

I normally fly in the early 60s and thus use the 1962 traffic most often. I have on occasion gone back to earlier years, especially when using airports like EGLL that have multiple versions for different years. Always nice to use the matching airport and traffic.

I probably spend about one-half of my FS9 flying time using the 1955 traffic. However, as a mere consumer of other-peoples work, I find it difficult to critique freeware so my input will probably not be too much help but do remain very grateful to all of the content creators for their efforts. I was born in 1955 and absolutely love the FS9 traffic.

Excellent question Bernard. I am going to have to think about this in more detail but the short answer is I like them all. Like Chris I was born in 55 and have a special affinity for that year but because I have spent the last several years developing military sceneries related to the Calclassic environment only and having to develop traffic for each matching year for both military only and civil military sceneries I have come to appreciate all the traffic years. 1957 was my main traffic year prior to getting involved with scenery and traffic design. I rarely fly these days due to the time spent developing these sceneries so depend on other’s stories about there flights but many times I am amazed at what shows up at the airports I or Ken and I work on as I work on my military traffic. I have a full suite of tools to monitor and ride along with ai traffic and spend all my time watching it as I develop these sceneries. Ken does all the user flying to make sure my ai stays out of the way for the most part. If it was up to me it will would be nothing but riding along with all the civil and military ai.
Wheelus is coming up and it will be a spectacular array of colorful paints throughout the years. Deltadart is a major contributor along with custom buildings by Ken Lawson and Dan French. Lajes is pretty much done and both will be introduced with Kens upcoming next stage of the ill fated flight of the C-121 flight to Dhahran.
A special thanks to Bernard’s vintage traffic postings. I have a separate GW install with many custom and downloaded sceneries and traffic that I seem to have no time time to enjoy anymore so really appreciate your postings.
A special thanks to Tom for being the center of gravity for all of this.

Although I have very much enjoyed doing sceneries, often with Al, in recent times, I always think of myself primarily as a flyer. I love the Super Constellation in particular, and period navigation with the sextant and now (thanks to Tom and Jorge) Loran. This being so, I never fly in 1962 and only very rarely in 1959, often leaving the Scenery Library set to 1955 for long periods. So the answer to your question, Bernard, is yes, 1955 is a major thing. For those who like military aircraft, of course, Al's sceneries are often particularly strong, because flying in different years you will see different aircraft. I appreciate that not everybody particularly wants to see bombers and fighters, but for those who do Al's traffic files have added a new dimension to classic FS9. Ken

Thanks for your kind replies. As aptly written by AI, it is difficult to maintain and expand different time periods fairly. That takes a lot of time and effort.
In addition to the 1955 traffic, I mainly use a 1962 version with the most sceneries, airfraft and traffic, then a special WII part with Hump and ATC traffic and finally the vintage years. I still have ideas and plans for all of these. But unfortunately not enough time!
Vintage would certainly be the easiest because it doesn't need any sophisticated structures. However, the range of appropriated aircraft is very limited. The 1962 version is already very exhausted for me, so that there might still be some more development opportunities in the mid-fifties.
Military activities could be an option, but for this I should at least have some orders of battle. My 1962 version is worldwidely mainly based on "Mcdonald World Power Guide 1963". A similar publication for mid-fifites would be fine.
I understand that military aircraft and air bases aren't everbody's cup of tea. I'm more interested in reviving airspace. These don't carry out any military operations, but generally only pattern flights. For more I should use CFS.
