But the airport has to be redone for classic use anyway, because in 1963 it just had a grass runway of 1500 m lenght. A small terminal was also opened then. But the mountains have not changed for centuries. There should be mountains in front of runway 23 regardless of what year the airport is in.

This is FS9 with FSGlobal 2010 Bernard. Seems to have better LOD than FS Genesis and so much greater detail visible at greater distances. Bill

Thanks Bill. I have tried FS Global 2010 already before. But it didn't convinced me. Not just at this particular place, but also at a lot of other locations. It generates worldwide anoying elevations of lakes like here at Queenstown. Therefore of no utility anymore. But I agree, that at least the hill on the left side of the airfield is shown acceptably. So what is worse? Bernard

I did notice that Bernard but probably easy to deal with by a flatten? I've dealt with worse.
I am firmly a fan of FSG 2010 because of the visual range. Probably elevations did not present a problem as I don't often use airports within mountainous areas.

Edit: Or a SBuilder sloping polygon

Flatten could indeed be a local solution. As already said, FS Global creates terrain issues elsewhere too. As an example, this is the area of Lake Naivasha in Kenya. Flattening all such locations would be a real herculean task. This place already gave rise to a longer thread in another flight sim forum, with all kind of solution proposals. Biut they all where appliable only locally. Finally I acceptably can live with the actual setting in the Queentown area. Bernard

Some weeks ago we discussed here, ho2 Queenstown Airport and specially its environment could be placed in a better terrain shape. Then I installed the "nzqnv1.0.zip" addon recommanded by Erik and felt having got an acceptable result. Meanwhile I activated Juan Antonio Martinez Castro's Lmatomba scenery as recently shown in an other thread.. Just as a reminder: it's in Peru, on the other side of the Pacific Ocean! I was quite surprised to see which bad impact the NZ addon has in the whole Lima area: It isn't the frist time a made such an experience with SRTM based meshes. The last one was reversed. Then terrain issues where generated in Uruguay. So my personal advice: keep your fingers of it! Bernard
