Can anyone recommend a software program for more accurate roadways in FS9 ? I've got my ground textures looking real good thanks to a free version of ORBX ground textures for FS9 but the roadways are still seriously lacking. Seem to remember a program called USA Roads a long time ago. Anyone have experience with this ? Seems like it's way out of print as I can't find it for sale anywhere.
Suggestions ?

All the Ultimate Terrains are worth having, and they don't just improve the roads.

So we reach again the ethernal question: should classic FS9 really looks like actual world with big cities, endless agglomerations and highways everwhere?

So been looking at screenshots of Ultimate Terrain. Bernard's comment has some truth in it for me. I'd just as soon not have the sprawl that's shown in places with U.T. The ORBX textures I'm using show fairly complex urban ares and cities but the rural ares and farmlands are really nice. Even though the roads are shown pretty much as default, the smaller streets and smaller neighborhood housing shines way, way above default. I think I may just keep things as they are and live with the roads. Don't remember where I got the ORBX textures. Think I saw a link to it somewhere in this forum. Definitely recommended.

I'm with Bernard and in recent months I've started the process of backdating the landclass for the area around airway Amber 1 and surroundings from Skipness in Scotland down to Seaford on the south coast of England using LWMviewer2 and large scale maps (1"= 1 mile) from 1955-1961. Takes time but rewarding and Tom has a tutorial. I can now find Manchester Airport visually by reference to individual cities and towns instead of searching a continuous urban sprawl. The same was done for the London Airport/Heathrow release.
As for these roads which refuse to follow FSG mesh correctly then unless you use roads for navigation one solution is just to disable the relevant RD files.

Just to show how unrealistic default is. UT may be an improvement but still present day. Over the last 60 years not only has the urban sprawl grown hugely, here in northern Britain vast areas of hill and upland are now covered with commercial forestry or other woodland which wasn't there in my youth. Glasgow/Prestwick default, but still with some SBuilder polys around Prestwick. Backdated landclass

Bill, there is no doubt that UT generally brings significant improvements. But, in some cases this is not always compatible with CalClassic scenery or others. Modifing landclass worldwide would be a tremendous amount of work. It's probably no coincidence that no one has ever bothered to make such changes on a large scale.
Mike, by ORBX I assume you mean the conversion, or a kind of it, done in 2016. A long time it was considered as illegal. I still have these textures and reactivated them just before replying here. IMO there a several complaints. First, there are by far more buildings where they shouldn't be than with default textures. The same happens with trees. You even will have them far up the Arctic Circle. You mention the better rendition of streets and highways, but I couldn't noticed a substantial difference.
What hurts me with default textures are highrise buildings shown even in rearmost towns somewhere in Africa or elsewhere. Therefore I deleted some autogen files. These are all files labeled *2an*.agn. Doing this way I could considerably reduce the large and unapprobriated buildungs. Of course, it's up to everyone how he wants to keep the environment of his FS.

Yeah, it is the conversion from FSX. Even though as said earlier, the urban areas are over-developed for our classic era, I can put up with that as I feel the suburban and rural areas are MUCH better that default. I will say though, that desert areas do look a little strange. Not enough variation in texture. Have used Silver Wings in the past but always felt the"look" was a bit under developed. Also the transitions between rural and urban were sometimes a bit uh, "sharp". The 90 degree street grids in S.W. I always found a little unrealistic which is why I like the ORBX streets as they look a little more random. I do like the colors of the Silver Wings textures though. With ORBX, I'm also using a file called "Photo Vegetation". Gives what I feel is a more forested look to non-inhabited areas.
Just wish I could improve the roads. Maybe something more like those in FSX.
