Mike Stevens here.
I saw some have asked about my absence. Since summer this has been a rough year, actually the worst year of my 61 years so far.
In August I was CTscanned and they discovered an aggressive liver cancer on my left lobe of my liver. They later found out that it was quickly growing towards a vein, and if that had happened, it would have spread throughout my body. They estimated that would have happened around January if left untreated. I had the left lobe of my liver removed in late October. Since I have had for many decades a badly diseased liver, the surgeon told me I could expect only to return to the state I was in prior to surgery in around 7 to 8 months, and not lift anything heavier than a gallon of milk for 6 months. A week after surgery, some of the stitches popped, opening up my abdominal cavity to the outside, and that led to a very dangerous infection. That led in a few days to peritonitis and sepsis, and the infection went all through by body and into my brain. Just over two weeks ago my organs began to shut down. My kidney function went to zero, and I had no idea who I was, where I was, anything. The doctors told my sister it was time to call in the family. Eventually, they determined what bacteria it was, and the right antibiotic. Do not know how, but I pulled though.
I was discharged from the hospital this last Saturday after almost a month. Each day I improve, but at a snail's pace. I now use a walker to move around, and can eat just tiny portions, mostly just snacking and sleeping. Since my badly damaged liver can not remove fluids fast enough (at least for now), my belly looks like I swallowed a beach ball, only pain meds help and I will have to have these fluids drained for the next several months. If everything fails, then my doctors tell me I will end up with a new, healthy transplant liver.
This is why I have been absent from uploads and from this board.
I have a couple nice sceneries that are 90% done and as my health permits I shall return to them, but most likely not until next spring. But they will be done - one being a very large US city that has three airports.
So I am still here. Even making a sandwich is tiring.
Now its off to my medications and a snooze on the couch. Watching me all bloated and in pain trying to get off the couch and into the walker looks like the U.S. Navy trying to upright to capsized U.S.S. Oklahoma! Anyway, for now I am cancer free!
