In another thread, member Skylane mentioned the MSFS Dornier Do X and its destinations. This is indeed an interesting and challenging project that I would like to take up and implement in FS9. But first I had tomake the plane AI compatible. Günther Kirschstein helped me a lot to configure this correctly. Mr. Kirschstein is a well-known FDE expert and frequently contributed to the FlightSim forum as "GK Kupper". In 1932 the Dornier Do X undertook a long journey to South and North America. Afterward it spent several weeks on a tour through Germany and landed on waters in numerous cities and places. One of these was a landing on the Danube river at Kechlet-Schalding weir near the Bavarian town Passau. In fact more a test flight to check correct behaviour of the plane and the suitability of the Afcad for the upcoming flights. Later the Dornier Do X flew over Ammersee in vincinity of Munich. Bernard

Some further scrennies of the Dornier Do X at destinations of its Western Hempisphere and Germany tours: over Guanabara Bay in Rio de Janeiro and approaching the Botafogo Bay, its mooring site Several weeks later the Do X reaches The Battery at Manhattan On its great Germany tour the seaplane also visited Berlin, of course. While overflying the famous avenue "Unter den Linden" with the Victory Colomn and the Brandenburg Gate on the right as well as Tempelhof Airport the Dornier Do X approaches Müggelsee, a lake outside the city of Berlin The town is sourrounded by several lakes. Aviatically speaking the most known is the basin created by river Havel. During the Berlin Airlift in 1948/49 it was used by the British Short Sunderlands supplying Berlin's population. Müggelsee is the greatest lake in this area. The restaurant "Rübezahl", where the Do X was mooring, became famous some twenty years later. Some of you might have once red about the East German people uprising in June 17th, 1953. This uprising had its starting point in the said restaurant. Four days earlier, during an excursion by construction site workers at an East Berlin hospital, the standard increases decided by the SED leadership were discussed on the trip to Müggelsee. In the beer garden of the Rübezahl restaurant, the workers decided to go on strike. In the following days, the first work stoppages occurred, which escalated into a popular uprising in the former GDR by June 17th. More than a million people took part in the popular uprising in over 700 places, which was violently suppressed. A memorial plaque by the lake commemorates the origins of the uprising. June 17th is still considered a special day in Germany today, along with several other memorable dates remembering of its turbulent history. Bernard

That is an interesting thread and a beautiful Do X model, Bernard. Where is it from? Did you made it yourself?

Thanks for your kind comments. Your appreciation should go to its creator, Proyecto Eolo. Günther Kirschstein (GKKnupper) helped me to get it flying correctly as AI.
