Wikipedia says "BA was created in 1974 after a British Airways Board was established by the British government to manage the two nationalised airline corporations, British Overseas Airways Corporation and British European Airways, and two regional airlines, Cambrian Airways and Northeast Airlines. On 31 March 1974, all four companies were merged to form British Airways".
And we have March 31, 2024, fifty-years later. Happy birthday!

Interesting that Easter falls on the anniversary this year! Of course, I would've failed since I was thinking this BA : British Airways, Ltd. (1935)And what is possibly the most famous photograph of the original company -- when P.M. Neville Chamberlain returned from Munich, courtesey of the online WW2 Database: Neville Chamberlain at Heston. What's interesting is that the original B.A. had the distinction of having the fastest civil transports in service within the U.K. at the time: Lockheed 14 airliners. That's why the government chose to contract with them instead of using Imperial Airways to ferry Chamberlain to the negotiations. Jorge Miami, FL

Yes. They were merged by the gov't with Imperial Airways to become BOAC on 1 September 1939 when war was declared on Germany.
