I seem to remember several months ago we had a discussion going on the forum pertaining to the DC5. I don't remember if anyone ever made one for flight sim or not. Can someone refresh my memory on this subject. Jesse

Jesse,
Search for "dougdc5.zip" at flightsim.com. It's an updated version of J.R. Lucariny's DC-5, with modifications by Wayne Tudor, and dynamics by FSAviator. I haven't tried it yet, but it looks good.

It's very nice especially with the panel from the Forum's own Ozbeowulf. There are two versions out there, the last being DC-5_v2.zip.

Hi Jesse,
I got the FS DC-5 by J.R.Lucariny / Wayne Tudor/ FS Aviator. It is quite a lovely wee plane. Available at Flightsim.com incl. repaints.
Years ago there was a presentation at the headquarters of the Dutch Dakota Association at Schiphol Airport of the one and only comprehensive DC-5 monograph. Unfortunately only published in the Dutch language. During the presentation 2 former KLM West Indies and KNILM pilots (Commodore Gerson "Fiets" van Messel and Captain Richard van Rees) and a former KLM West Indies flight engineer Henk van der Ham were guests of honour. They told some interesting stories. Seems that the DC-5 was quite a nice aircraft but WWII (the messenger of the bad news was Gen. Hap Arnold) prevented it to be kept in production. Ed Heinemann was the chief designer of the DC-5.
Just 6 months ago I met a Dutch former Navy pilot at an FS event in Holland. He told me that he had been a passenger on board of a KNILM DC-5 when his dad took him up. That was just before the Japanese occupied Java.
Cheers, Maarten

Hi,
Yes, the DC-5 was produced at the Douglas El Segundo plant (all the other propliners were produced at Santa Monica). This plant normally built the smaller military aircraft (like the Douglas Dauntless dive bomber), and wartime demands forced Douglas to cancel the competing DC-5.

I was just checking up on the DC-5 last week, and saw that FSAviator had done an update to it, but it said not to use any other panels than the default DC-3 panel provided. I have Glenn's DC-5 panel installed on the V2 DC-5 that I have and for me, it really made the sim. I always enjoy Glen's work and I wish I could install it on the updated DC-5. Glenn, could you modify the panel to work with the latest DC-5, or could someone explain what changes to make so that I can make it work. I'd appreciate any help that anyone could offer.
