Came across these videos of a Hercules sleeve valve engine start after twenty years of dormancy. Second video shows the old girl, a Bristol 170, taxiing a few months later. Several more taxi trials of the Bristol are on Youtube as well www.youtube.com/watch?v=pXDw_670JJkwww.youtube.com/watch?v=IFXn5JzGljcThe sound is completely different from a Wright or P&W. Turn up the volume and enjoy!

O well-loved and well-remembered sound and sight!
We used to have Silver City Airways Bristol Frighteners operating out of EGHI - they looked and sounded like big silver-and-blue bumblebees and had the same apparant disregard for the laws of aerodynamics. Bristol's design policy was "you can make a teatray fly if you give it big enough engines".
There is excellent Bristol Hercules ear candy at flightsim.com - HERCSND.ZIP (by Harry Follas for FS98) and the addon BRSHRCUG.ZIP (by John Hinson for FS2004) - with the sound turned up you'll melt the wax in no time at all! ;D
