I kow what you mean Bill It's in your head but words alone can't bring it out. I've had the same thing trying to explain exactly how a Superfreighter sounded. Garry

Gee, I wish I can remember the name of the UK movie that featured the Superfreighter as the major character. They were testing it (before introduction) and had some scary moments with it. It was standing in for a fantasy plane and aircraft company. The story was told from the viewpoint of one of the test pilots. Lots of good Superfreighter footage there.

Hi Tom The Man in the Sky Not a Superfreighter but a Silver City Mk.21 fitted with a temp dorsal fin. The aircraft was damaged in a ground loop filming this sequence www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKlG_lrCVX4Sounds are being done OK for the Freighter...I was reffering to trying to explain to people who had not heard one rather than a problem in getting them made Garry

That's the one. Sorry about the Superfreighter - should have said Freighter, of course. I wasn't sure why they made such a big deal about a single engine landing in the film; I hope the real one didn't have exhibit such behavior... Sorry to hear about the damage; hope it was fixed and she went back in service. Thanks,

Yes.......rather dramatic. The damage was not great and she was soon to return to Silver City and was one of their last two 21 retired in 1963. A bit of undercarriage strain etc I think The false dorsal may have been added to improve control as they threw it around at low speed. The dorsal is not as blended as that on the 31. The 21 did have a prob with an engine out in as much as two lost their fins that way . This is why the 31 had a dorsal. The real aircraft did not behave like that shown in the film. Note the shots where there are two engines running and that the mudscrapers are on on the interior shots but not fitted when she comes to a stop.....I have three versons of the undercarriage because of the mud srapers fitted, not fitted or removed Garry

Yep, and I also noticed that once on the ground, it didn't have its dorsal fin anymore!
