This is my first ever post here on the CalClassic Forum's, I thought I would show my respects after having enjoyed all that you've offered! My name is Engjell Berisha, I'm a 17 year old High School student from Staten Island, New York. I'm a fairly avid aviator flying C-172/182's out of Linden Municipal (KLDJ), and am a hopeful future PPL holder - with any luck by the time the summer is out. I attend Susan E. Wagner High School and am enrolled in the AF JROTC their, within which I hold the position of Deputy Group Commander. I plan on going to the United States Air Force Academy after high school. I also develop aviation software for companies/corporations etc. - currently I am developing a C-17 Cockpit model for the USAF and general FS community as a trainer for C-17 Aircrews. The previous night I flew the CalClassic DC-6B from Honolulu Intl. to Las Angeles Intl. as Western Airlines Flight No. 611 (WAL611). WAL611 - www.vataware.com/flight.cfm?id=3874116The flight lasted 10hr & 34min, flown at 21,000' with a average G/S of roughly 230kts. The DC-6 as usual, handled beautifully throughout the entire flight! Enough of me, here are the screen shots: *No editing was done except for cropping, Black & White rendition, and film strips.* Thank You, I hope you've enjoyed view as much as I've enjoyed flying! Good Day! Engjell Berisha

Hi Engjell, Thanks for the nice views of the flight. Western did hope to fly to Hawaii in that era; unfortunately Pan Am put a stop to that. They did eventually fly 707's to Hawaii. United flew DC-6B's to Hawaii for many years (on tourist flights after the DC-7's arrived), as did Northwest (from Portland) and Canadian Pacific (from Vancouver). Japan Air also flew DC-6B's to Hawaii from Wake Island and California, although only a few after the DC-7C's arrived. Two little things - we like to keep screenshots in the main Discussion forum to less than 800 pixels wide, to avoid users with lower screen resolutions having to scroll right and left to read your message. Also, if you post just screen shots (which you did not - you included a nice personal introduction), it's best to post them to the Screen Shots forum. There is no 800 pixel wide restriction there either. Again, welcome to CalClassic and thanks for the images!

I was sure it was in the main Discussion forum, but I didn't move it. If you posted it here Engjell, then just ignore that part of my message.

No worries Tom, Yea I realized Western didn't fly to Honolulu but I liked the paint, ain't a big fan of united, and I liked the Spinners.
Thanks for the comments non-the-less.
I failed to mention that I am gonna try to modify the original panel and/or remake it to as accurate a rendition that I am capable of offering. I would personally like to updated some of the panel graphics and such initially and then get into the actual workings of it all.
If there is something specific you'd like me to address, or if you've information that can be made available that would aide me in the pursuit for accuracy I would greatly appreciate them. Particularly Hi-Res/Hi-Quality photos.
Once again thanks!

Way too common these days, Dave...
Engjell, I don't have any good pictures (or I would have used them too). I settled for Mitch's drawing as the best of the moment.
As for other information, I have a couple of DC-6B flight manuals, and just ask here if you need information.
Keep in mind that the panel has many things in it (like spoiler drag for the cowl flap drag) that might not be immediately apparent, so changes should be carefully done. Also, the view out the window is customized for this panel image (see the panel integration tutorial on my site for more information).
Take care,

Hi Engjell, welcome to the insanity. As someone who started flying at an early age as well (soloed at 16), I wish you the very best. As for the PPL, my best advice is basically fly to the PTS or better and DON'T SCARE THE EXAMINER!!! There are quite a few pilots on here so if you ever have a question just shoot it out in the Classic Chat. My best advice is once you have the Private, take a break before jumping into the IFR and build some cross country time flying for fun...I made the mistake of jumping right into IFR training while doing my senior year at high school, needless to say that much work burned me out quick. Anyways, best of luck, and welcome.

Thanks loads everyone!
PilotGod, I've been flying for an early age as-well I soloed at 12, I fly a lot particularly from New York to Vermont, Nantucket, Jersey. I've a lot of VFR & IFR experience, the only thing I've been waiting on is my age. It also helps that most of the examiners are good friends of mine. Besides lite aircraft experience I have a lot of experience with heavy military aircraft. Non-the-less I believe that a humble attitude will serves to preserve you, I am also scared and greatly appreciative of undertakings - particularly aviation related ones. BTW, I really like the lines on your signature!
Thanks once again!
