???I have run into a situation that has me stumped. I did a wipe of my hard drive and did a clean reinstall of Win XP. I reinstalled FS2004 but now when I click on the little icon on my desktop, I get a popup that says I must log on as administrator and that access is denied. I am now and have always been the only user of this computer. I even have my administrator password entered into the system. I am not able to run flight sim and have not been able to find a solution. Anybody got any ideas how to fix this? Jesse

Hi Jesse - Lots of sympathy from downunder... It's been a long time since I installed any new programs, but I seem to remember being asked at an early stage, did I want this program available to me only or to all users. Whenever I see that, I say 'all users', even tho' like you, I am the only user and that automatically makes me Admin. That's all I can think of.
This is not an FS thing - it is WinXP saying you need to login to Windows as an Admin, to use the program. You should be able to change the FS access to 'all users' without reinstalling FS, but a reinstall might be the 'quick and dirty' fix.
Ain't technology wunnerful?

Try this.
1. Boot your system up into Safe Mode, it should then ask you before Windows loads to log in as the Admin or Guest or whatever. Log in as Admin (since you have a password it will ask for it). This ensures that when you get to Windows your the Admin.
2. Go to your Control Panel and Open "User Accounts".
3. By default, your Accounts should be <Your Name> which is the Computer Admin and Guest. If Guest is enabled, the problem your having will present if that is the default login that it boots to. I just shut mine off.
4 If it says Guest account is On, just select "Change Account", then that account. One of the options is to turn that account off.
This should solve the problem as now the only account Windows will boot to is the Admin. If this doesn't fix the problem, then we're beyond the "off the top of my head" fixes and in need of more experienced help. Hope this works, few things are as frustrating as a misbehaving computer.

There is joy in Brookeland tonight. I took the advice of the troops and ran the computer in Safe Mode. Sure enough, I had to click on the Administrator button to enbable me to use FS2004. This was the first time in over 15 years of simming that I had to do that. This old dog learned a new trick. ;D

Good to hear it worked out for you. I may have read your reply wrong, but did you say your running it in Safe Mode all the time, or you used Safe Mode to disable the other accounts? Running in Safe Mode is fine, but it limits a lot of your abilities, getting the machine to default when booting to the Admin account would be the best solution. Again, if I read that wrong, I apologize, just making sure the problem is truly gone and not just "swept under the rug".

Running in the regular mode. Just used Safe Mode to access the Administrator button. All running Hot, Straight and Normal.
