DDA-flight from Amsterdam to Cambridge, UK. This flight I made in reality two weeks ago, with exactly the same route and similar weather conditions. Taxi-out on the historic ramp of the old Schiphol Airport, "Schiphol East". With Schiphol Center in the background, we make our way to runway 04. Shortly after take-off, the left turn towards the tower. This way we stay clear of all in- and outgoing jet-traffic. Flying right over the airport is always impressive and scenic! The dunes at Zandvoort. From here it is all water for about 50 minutes... ...and more water... Tiny DC-3, bigh North Sea. We are at 1500 feet. Finally, the British coast in sight. We estimate to make landfall at Southwold, Suffolk. Over beautiful Suffolk with it's lovely hedgerow country roads, derelict USAAF 8th AF airfields and small villages. Nearing Cambridge. Over Newmarket now and preparing for landing. Field in sight! Flaps one quarter please... Gear down and locked. Flaps half, please... Over the threshold. We have to back-track after landing... ...to enter the ramp in front of the terminal. All fueled up for the home flight and parked in front of Cambridges' historic 1930-ies terminal.

I remember that... wasn't that a diverted DDA-Duxford "Flying Legends" flight ? I was at DXF at the time and heard our "Four" circling a few times overhead above the low cloud/mist in an attempt to find a hole in the cloud. With a few hours delay the DC-4 (and you) arrived from Cambridge in clear weather. ;D What a great aircraft that DC-4 was....
