All,
I hate to post a basic FS question here, but I haven't been able to find an answer anywhere else. Has anyone else had the problem of aircraft randomly disappearing from FS?
I reinstalled Carenado's 182 the other day. Everything worked fine. Now when I start FS, and scroll through my list of aircraft to create a flight, "engage cloaking device!" Poof! I've had the same problem with other aircraft in the past.
Any thoughts? Do you need to see .cfg's?
Help!
Al

I would say if you have not made any changes to that Carenado cfg and it did show up before then it should still be fine.
I think I remember there was a limit to the number of airplanes that FS will load...but that was a really large number.
But you could just for testing purposes create a new folder, called Hangar for example, and move a few of the other aircraft folders you don't immediately plan to fly out of the FS9\aircraft\ folder into that new Hangar folder.
Then start FS9 again and see if your Carenado airplane is there.

Hi,
Is it listed under Carenado instead of under Cessna?

Hi,
If you check the 'cfg' I think you will find, under 'ui_manufacturer' the name under which it will appear in the sim, in the airplane window.

Hello Al;
Don't know, but if you are using FSX you need to uncheck the "DirectX10" box in the display section of FSX.
A lot of aircraft that have been converted from FS 2004 to FSX will not display unless this is done.

All, Well, here's the problem. It's listed under Carenado, just like my old installation. The airplane loaded and worked just fine after installation. Now, after being away for three days...POOF! Gone. Contact departure. I am at a total loss Earlier, I had a repaint of the Carenado 206 that did the same thing. Guess what? It's suddenly showing up. Weird, huh? Rod Serling should step in right about now... Al

Okay, I'm stumped. I should have checked first, but upon further inspection, I find that the 182's cfg file is gone. I have NO idea where it went (I had not modified it yet). I'm reinstalling now to see if that fixes the problem.
The tip off was that another aircraft's gauges weren't showing up in the cockpit. Upon further inspection, I find that the gauges are gone.
I also noticed that some of my installed scenery wasn't showing any more. The files are still there, but the scenery was no longer activated in FS (it wasn't even on the list of sceneries).
Has anyone had this happen before? Is this a Vista issue?
Al

Hi,
I've never seen that before, but I've heard of it.

That fixed it. The files affected seemed to be random:
The Carenado 182 was there, but the cfg file was gone... The Maule's gauges disappeared... The documents and gauges to Manfred's Starliner also disappeared... Some recent scenery installations turned themselves off...
I don't know why that happened, but I'm keeping detailed logs to see if there's a pattern.
Thanks for the help everyone!
Al
