Greetings to all,
My question relates to what seems to be a "pothole" or some other sort of bump on the runway.
This issue is isolated to two places (that I'm aware of). 1 - EGKK RWY26L (intersection with taxiway "C") 2 - KORD RWY32R (intersection with taxiway "U")
Both scenarios are pretty much the same - FS9, start with the default flight, select default B744, select MTOW. Begin takeoff roll normally, reach the intersection in question, and boom, it's like hitting a speed bump. There's even a cloud of smoke visible in certain views. Sometimes this even leads to a major panic at T/O (particularly at KORD as it's right about at the point of rotation).
I had a different question a couple of weeks ago regarding a/c bouncing on some FS9 runways. That problem was resolved with help from this forum, thanks guys. Naturally, I tried the fixes for that problem but with no luck.
Any help or suggestions anyone might offer would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Bob

There's one of those at PHNL too, if I recall correctly, though it's been a while I've been messing around that airport and can't remember exactly where.

Hi,
That is where the elevation of the airport changes slightly. I don't know why this happens, but it is often not fixable. You can try adding a flatten polygon over the entire airport and that *sometimes* works.
There is one in the middle of the LAX 25 runways too...
Hope this helps,

Thanks Tom and Ashaman for your responses.
I'd like to try the "flatten" procedure you suggest Tom but I am unfamiliar with this process. Is it something a "non-expert" can accomplish without too much difficulty? Does it require some special software? Also, is there a tutorial you might suggest?
Thanks for the help guys.
Regards
Bob

You can use the apron. With AFCAD, AFX, or ADE9x, just create an apron poly under the runway that is more or less big as the runway (the apron will appear under and will be hidden by the runway by default). Terrain will be automatically flattened under it. Or put a decently sized (meaning slightly smaller) taxiway under the runway, it has the same flatten effect of the apron.
I remember though that I tried this on PHNL with no success, but no guts no glory. Go on and try it for yourself in the airports you need it.

It was explained to me, that the problem is caused by faulty terrain mesh joints in FS from the factory, and is something that will not go away. McChord AFB in WA has a real bad one on the North end of the field. My solution although not entirely realistic was to take AFCAD and move the whole airfield 150 yards South, and now it works just fine. Just an idea....

Yes, that makes sense. That's why some are not fixable...
