Ccool! If you get something you like send it along to me, and I'll incorporate it into any version 3 that may be done someday. I have EZ Scenery too, so any edits I may have to do (for any future changes to the airport) would be easy.
Thanks,

Hi Tom,
Will do and thanks. FPS seem to be holding up so far, but then, this part of the sim world has always been heavy, regardless of the time period. Even if I can't fly into it due to FPS, I still enjoy watching all the Ai trafiic, a real treat. I still remember as a kid being on the observation decks in the IAB.

Maarten,
Idlewild is fun, love the traffic, so many memories for me. I added some more, but it still needs work. I got Instant 3d models, but I'm stuck. Keeps asking for the path for ImageTool and its not recognizing it, and I understand that its supposed to work in conjunction with Flight1's instant scenery. I checked the product but it seems to me that its another form or same thing as Abacus EZScenery. I have alot of 4 sided views of 1950's vehicles, buses, cars etc. from my model railroading days that I would build out of card stock. We need 55 Buick's (using photos of my beloved "Bulah Buick" which I had to sell in the move to NC, Chevys and so on. It just strange seeing Ford Mustangs and modern vehicles in these wonderful retro sceneries. In the meantime, I'll keep trying the 3d thingy, and hopefully I'll get the hang of it.

After several days of working with Instant Scenery Object Maker and not getting anywhere with it, I just decided to work with the objects that are available and just modify some of them to more reflect the retro time period. I pulled out my GMAX from storage and bought FSDS v3 so will see how this goes. I'm not giving up on my quest for retro vehicles, just need to spend a bit more time with the documentation. FPS are not bad, 12 to 15 range considering I have added alot of objects, but like I said before, watching traffic at Idlewild is a hoot. Too many screenshots to post, so the link will take you to the album. Enjoy. Frank screenshots: s280.photobucket.com/albums/kk183/eagle526/Idlewild%201958%20-%201959/

Hi,
Looks great - nice job. If you want to work with existing scenery objects in GMAX or FSDS, you will need the source files from the author - neither can open compiled BGL files.
Thanks,

Hi, Thanks Tom for the advise. For now I just decided to use what is already available. Instant Scenery Object is fair, but vehicles are very boxy looking. I did get to do the GM PD4101 Greyhound style buses, still need to finish up the Scenicruisers and some 1950's transit buses. GMAX and FSDS v3 is going to take alot of reading on my part. I did find someone that would make the 50's cars in a very nice 3D format and would convert the textures, but at $75 to $150 per vehicle, this is definitely not the way to go, especially for static objects. In the meantime I'm just using the vintage vehicles with the modern ones is out of the way places. I think I reached the end with Idlewild, though there are 3 more things that I would like to add though at some point. FPS are in the 8 to 14 range, depending on the view and the amount of traffic. I'm happy with it and I'm enjoying the memories. I did exclude the Verrazano Bridge since this did not open until 1964 and the modern cruise ship at the entrance of lower Manhattan. I will replace the ship with more correct ones and placing them at the cruise ship docks on the lower west side. Other projects I have been working on are Ft Lauderdale, The downtown Miami skyline to better reflect Kenny's scenery. Gone are all the tall skyscrapers and replaced with more correct types, the ridiculous cruise ships placed in Biscayne Bay and in the intra coastal waterways, never did such a thing exsist in real life. What was MS thinking. I did create the Florida East Coast RR terminal in downtown Miami by the Federal Building, torn down during 1964. Tom, I used your UP train as a test and it just adds that little extra feel to Miami, now I just need to create the train itself. Also gone is Joe Robie Stadium to the north of Miami. Opa Locka needs to be reworked and Amelia Earheart airfield just south of Opa Locka, needs to be in place. Sadly today it's a park. I was lucky enough to grow up in NYC and also live in S Florida from the late 60's to 1999, so it helps out with the memories. Miami Beach I also worked on but just needs a bit more toward S Beach. Dodge Island seems to not have been a cruise terminal during the 50's from the research and pictures that I have seen and collected. I know the Miami River has always had ship traffic so I must still try and find more info. Boeing Field and Renton Municipal is another WIP, actually just need to finish the Boeing Air Terminal which opened up during the 30's. OK, enjoy the Idlewild screenies. Hi,
Looking great! I noticed that a couple things are missing though. First, there are usually extra airstairs sitting around. They are in the Core Library.BGL, and other retro addon scenery libraries (like Las Vegas and ArkLaMiss, as I remember) have even more. Second would be baggage carts and baggage conveyors; they are in the vehicles.bgl, as I remember.
Third - if you want any of my GMAX objects (like the train) so you can repaint or modify them, just let me know.
Thanks,
