How To Set Up Callsigns for ATC Radio calls

Question: What field can I use to get ATC to call me by the right callsigns e.g. AMERICAN 234 or DELTA 456?

Just started fooling around with radio traffic and have discovered that FS9 will recognize military names like ARMY, NAVY, COAST GUARD etc. (but not Civil Air Patrol) in the "atc_airline=" field, and default airlines like "GLOBAL FREIGHTWAYS" and "AMERICAN PACIFIC". But I can't get it to recognize "AMERICAN", UNITED" and others when I enter those words in the "atc_airline=" field on downloaded DC-4s, 3s and some of the other propliners. Is there some other field that FS9 looks at which can be used.

So far I've discoverd that for light acft I can use :
atc_type= (Cessna, Piper,Mooney, etc.) and
atc_id= (N9220t) or just 20T

For military aircraft I can use:
atc_airline= (ARMY, NAVY, COAST GUARD, MARINE, but it won't recognize Civil Air Patrol or CAP Flight when I enter it in this field)
atc_flight_number=(234, 345,etc)

But for Airlines, I'm having trouble figuring out how to get the program to recognize airline names I enter in the "atc_airline" field for my downloaded acft. ATC will call me by flight number only...e.g. -----345, cleared to land Runway 30, but not AMERICAN 345. That's what I'm looking for.

Has anybody else tried to do this and run across the problem? Any advice, or is this just an odd quirk related to FS9? Pre-programed words only, maybe?

Could be, I'm asking it to do too much. It's a neat feature as is, but it would be even better if ATC would call me, in my after-market, download aircraft, by my full callsign when I request a landing clearance. Any thoughts, anyone? Would appreciate it.

Hi,

Here is the list of all the airlines that will be spoken by the default FS2004 ATC:

As you can see, American is listed there, so that should work fine (and works fine for me). Note that they are not case sensitive, but you must get them spelled *exactly* right or they won't work. Even to the spaces between words.

If you download EditVoicePack, install it, do a web update, and then Update Airlines.cfg in the menu, you will have a complete listing of airlines to choose from when you click the Change ATC button in the Select Aircraft menu. It will also be a much longer list than you have now.

Was only using American and Delta as examples. Tried Pan American but see now I need to use Pan Am instead. Tricky!

Also wanted to add TOPAC for the "High and Mighty" DC-4, but see that's a no-go. Assume you can't add names to the list, correct?

Hi Jon-
With EVP you can create custom names by slicing up other names and joining the bits together. For example, you could cut the 'top' sound from 'hilltop' and the 'ak' from 'Akron' and paste them together to make 'TOPAC'.
It's a bit fiddly selecting just the right section of the soundwave display but you soon get the hang of it.
John Hinson is the guru for this. I think he knows every airport name and callsign used in FS9.
