Hi!
Randy!
Nice story there! Yes, I did yesterday and previous days that same route from PAA 1950 Schedule: flight PAA4
La Guardia, Boston, Gander, Shannon and London Heathrow.
I'm now back a few years with a L-049A KLM from La Guardia to Gander (1947 timetable)!

Let's separate here a few things:
FSVintage Air runs in a FS Host server capable of accepting clients running all versions of fs since at least FS2002. For your particular version you'll need additional software to run it as the multiplayer was one of the many things that MS broke from FS9. It is a case of getting it from FSVintage Air here:
www.vintageatc.com/resourse_page.htmlIn our Saturday sessions we don't have ATC, we monitor our position by ourselves with the help of FS Navigator, which is a very handy software that doesn't exist for fsx.
If you wish to experiment ATC "as real as it gets", using modern navigation procedures, NOTAMs and, in essence, be a replica of the real world airliner environment, than you should try IVAO or/and Vatsim.
For me FS9 is a simulation of flight, not a game. That's why I don't like fsx as MS gave it gaming features.
Saying so you can use fsx and still enjoy those Networks, although you will find quickly that the majority still uses FS9 because:
-more sceneries and more accurate features
-more addon aircraft and better made (many fsx are "port" over and loose a lot!
-better performance (you wouldn't like to land in a busy airport and your machine wouldn't cope with the quantity of aircraft been there!)
For FS Host sessions, you will be able to see the other aircraft if you have the exact same model. If not they will be displayed as Cessnas!
IVAO and Vatsim use a different approach: they have their own "multiplayer models" which are of lower quality and are identical to everyone, so if you don't have the PMDG 737 (only available for FS9), you will still see them as 737! IVAO models are of higher quality!
Now. although those networks are oriented to the modern world, they are not adverse if you wish to fly a DC-3! I have found though that IVAO has a better reception to Classic flying and as I type this I am 300NM from Gander and I am connected to IVAO!
Software for fsx:
Vatsim uses a plethora of it! For fsx I believe the recommended is:
FS Copilot latest Beta version
FS INN- latest one
VatSPY - program to see other pilots and ATC available
and maybe some Multiplayer Library for the models
IVAO only requires 2:
IVAE or the Eye of IVAO to show you where other pilots are and ATC.
IVAN- Network client application. There is a dedicated version for fsx.
And that's it!
For each Network you will need to apply with them to become a membert. IVAO has "ratings" for pilots and Controllers. Vatsim only has for ATC. The ratings for pilots don't prevent you to fly whatever you want! If you wish to fly all the time a B744, go ahead!
;D
IVAO here:
www.ivao.aero/Vatsim here:
vatsim.net/Just another note: Vatsim is popular in the USA and UK while IVAO is more popular in Europe and South America!
And as Johan said some do take things too seriously: Fs is in essnce a simulation, but it is also a hobby and should be fun!
If you wish any help, just PM me! I will be glad to help!
