I was fooling around a bit in Google Earth just now and, much to my surprise, I found something. Seems that new aereal pictures for the whole environment for Berlin has been posted - taken in December 1953! They clearly show Gatow, Tegel (you can even read 'Tegel' on the roof of the terminal), Tempelhof (look at the baseball pitches on the grass at the airside of the terminal!) and Schönefeld (much smaller then, than it was in '61), as well as the smaller airfields at Johannisthal (52°03'05"N, 13°31'16"E) and Staaken (52°32'04"N, 13°06'58"E) (both in the Soviet zone). Oddly, things seem to be very quiet there. Both Gatow and Tegel seem to be absolutely abandoned on the pictures, and just one aircraft seems to stand on the apron at Tempelhof. Schönefeld, on the other hand... I count 26 Li-2s and 1 Il-12 there. And another 4 Li-2s at Staaken as well. On a more sobering note - just take a look at central Berlin...
